Panicked parents declare a ‘state of emergency’ as Cbeebies off air

‘CBeebies is down – this is NOT a drill!’ Panicked parents declare a ‘state of emergency’ as millions of youngsters are sent into ‘meltdown’ after glitch forces children’s channel off air

  • Sky customers described toddlers ‘going mad’ without their favourite shows
  • Panic set in when CBeebies was down for around an hour between 7am and 8am
  • Some reported children in tears because they couldn’t watch the favourite show
  • Many joked about having to talk to their sons and daughters or read them books

Parents were thrown into a blind panic today after CBeebies stopped working forcing them to entertain their children themselves.

Sky customers described toddlers ‘going mad’ without Go Jetters or Hey Duggie to watch and urged the BBC to ‘send help’ to affected households all over the UK.

Some reported children in tears because they couldn’t watch the favourite show they watch before nursery or school.

CBeebies was down for around an hour between 7am and 8.10am and while some were tearing their hair out, many more saw the funny side.

Paul Elston tweeted: ‘@CBeebiesHQ @SkyUK @SkyHelpTeam OMG hurry up…. I have already had to talk to my daughter for an hour… She seems like nice person’.

Parents were forced to entertain and console their little ones while they desperately got ready for work or to start the day.

Taj Dhaliwal wrote: ‘Cbeebies has gone down to all the parents out there stay calm and be safe #cbeebies’.

Sarah Garcia said: ‘What with no #cbeebies this morning I have no idea when we should be eating breakfast or getting dressed….. @CBeebiesHQ’.

While Ann Francis asked: ‘Cbeebies not broadcasting. Is this Brexit? Is this how it starts?’ and another viewer said: ‘Anarchy has descended on our household. Is there a compensation scheme available? I was thinking 1 new episode of Hey Duggee for each 15 mins of having to interact with our kids? #cryinginside’.

The popular channel, whose busiest period is between 7am and 9am, was forced to contact Sky to rectify the problem.

In a message to viewers the channel’s official Twitter feed said: ‘To all you @SkyUK users with no CBeebies this morning… Some parents reporting they’ve tried [chatting to] their children and they’re quite nice. News just in… they’ve woken up the engineer who’s on it’.

At around 8.10am it was fixed – just in time for Justin’s House – and the channel wrote: ‘CBeebies is back on Sky! Well done to all the parents, carers, engineers, TV execs and social media support who had a frantic start to their day!’
