‘I was saying this the other day, I was like, to be honest, I don’t believe in straight people,’ she said while chatting to mental health advocate Lacy Hartselle. ‘They’re as real as unicorns to me.’

Speaking out: Madison recently came out as pansexual in a sweet TikTok video before revealing that she has a girlfriend
The TV star, who plays fun-loving Kiara Carrera on the hit Netflix show, said that, when it comes to her own sexuality, she has always felt free to live openly, explaining that she feels so fortunate that nobody in her life has ever tried to shame her or force her to change.
‘I feel zero shame, and I don’t feel that way because nobody’s ever really shamed me for it and I know a lot of people have had lot of hate and lack of support,’ she told Lacy.
‘I know so many, countless stories of queer people that did not have support. But if you’re asking me personally, that’s just my experience with it. It was worth it. I feel lighter, I feel happier that I can just be so open and honest. It feels nice.’
Madison, who recently revealed that she is dating UNC Charlotte basketball star Mariah Linney, urged other members of the LGBTQ community to come out publicly if they feel safe and ready – saying that living openly is ‘worth it’.
‘If you’re gay, tell everybody that you’re gay. It’s worth it,’ she said.
The Outer Banks actress shared her joyful message about coming out just weeks after she revealed to the world that she is pansexual – while introducing her fans and followers to her girlfriend Mariah.

Madison took to TikTok at the end of May to educate her followers on what it means to be pansexual – a term that describes a person who is sexually or romantically attracted to others regardless of gender.
In the post, which she entitled ‘just to clarify’, the actress begins by stating that ‘nobody knows what pansexual means’ before explaining exactly how she interprets the term.
Using a funky TikTok song to add a bit of fun to the clip, Madison proceeds to explain that a pansexual person can be attracted to all different kinds of people, including ‘girls, boys, trans girls, trans boys, and nonbinary babies’.
The term pansexual is viewed as being much more inclusive than ‘bisexual’, because it does not assume that a person is only attracted to men or women, but also those who don’t identify with a specific gender.
Just a few days after posting her pansexual explainer, Madison shared another video in which she introduced her girlfriend – UNC Charlotte basketball player Mariah Linney – who appeared in the post with the actress.
In the clip, which was captioned simply ‘surprise’, Madison mouths along to a voiceover that repeatedly says, ‘I’m not falling, I’m not falling, I’m not following’, before ending with: ‘OK I’m falling.’
Taking it to the next level: On Monday, Mariah also shared a series of sweet snaps of the duo on Instagram, including one in which she is seen cuddling her girlfriend and kissing her cheek
