Maisie Summers-Newton has become a Paralympic champion following an impressive victory in the SM6 200m individual medley final on Thursday. 

The 19-year-old took charge of the race at the halfway point and held off the challenge of Ukraine’s Yelyzaveta Mereshko to win in a world-record time.

Her Paralympics GB team-mate Ellie Simmonds – who inspired her to swim – finished fifth.
