Paramedics’ photos show ambulance’s bloodsoaked interior after they were attacked by patient high on drink and drugs and had to be rescued by Taser-armed police

  • The pictures were posted on social media said the patient had consumed drugs
  • Police arrived and the patient spit, punch, and headbutted ambulance crew

Paramedics have posted horrifying images of the bloodstained interior of an ambulance after they were attacked by a patient.

The images show blood smeared on the roof of the vehicle as well as sprayed on the sides and floor. The crew had to be rescued from the patient by police armed with tasers.

The pictures were posted this morning to a public social media page with the caption: ‘The patient in this instance had consumed alcohol and drugs.

‘He had subjected the crew to a torrent of appalling abuse.

‘Police were called, and the patient began to spit, punch, and headbutt the ambulance and crew. Police taser officers were called.’

Referring to the targeting system used by police, they added: ‘The subject was red dotted.

‘Unfortunately, one of the ambulance crew members’ was stuck in the attendant’s seat, blocked in by a taser officer as the officer threatened to deploy his side arm.

‘Scary moment. Ambulance crews should not tolerate abuse.’

It is not clear when the pictures were taken or where. It is also unclear whether the blood is that of the patient, the crew, or both.

John Roberts wrote under the post: ‘It happens too often to us mate. The amount of my colleagues that deal with this on the daily is astonishing.

‘One of our ambulances came back to base and had to be taken off the road, due to a patient deciding to smash the whole inside of the ambulance up using nothing but an oxygen bottle.

‘Sad times, but on the flip, also deal with amazing patients who it is a pleasure to serve and help. So it isn’t all bad.’

Rachel Brown added: ‘It’s not just the physical abuse we tolerate. Only the other day my crew mate and myself were subjected to verbally sexual and racial abuse from a patient who appeared a ‘happy’ drunk prior to getting on the ambulance, he then turned.

‘As much as this should not be tolerated, we still have a duty of care to the patient. On another note, said patient was dealt with by the Police and statements were made.’

Robert Driver said: ‘As a student paramedic a few years ago at an unnamed trust, we received some self defense and breakaway training.

‘It was f****** abysmal, the instructor had a book in front of us and was learning as he went and nearly all his moves involved something complicated that would fail in real life. It was a joke.’

Members of the public were shocked by the images and abuse the staff received.

Abbie Smith said: ‘An ambulance can look like this after a trauma. To look like this because the helpers have been attacked is just not acceptable.’

Dawn Street commented: ‘I hope none of that blood belonged to the crew members and it was just the vile piece of pond scum that bled.’

The page said: ‘We believe it was a private provider working on a frontline NHS contract in the south.’
