Paramount pushes pair of Tom Cruise movies – Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible 7 – deeper into 2022
Fans who have been anticipating seeing Tom Cruise reprising two of his most iconic roles will have to wait a bit longer.
Paramount Pictures announced Wednesday that they were pushing the highly-anticipated Top Gun: Maverick from November 19, 2021 to May 27, 2022, which falls on Memorial Day weekend.
The studio also pushed another Tom Cruise tentpole, Mission: Impossible 7 from May 27, 2022 to September 30, 2022, according to Deadline.

The studio also pushed the upcoming Jackass Forever from October 22 to February 4, 2022, meaning the studio won’t have another movie released theatrically in 2021.
The moves were made by Paramount because the studio didn’t want to ‘cherry pick’ which movies would open in this current climate.
The report revealed the studio believes all of their projects and stars deserve the same box office consideration and positioning in the current marketplace.

The studio also made these moves after consulting with their global team regarding COVID-19 and the infectious Delta variant.
With the global box office outlook much brighter for 2022, the studio simply decided to maximize the potential for their current slate and move their movies to 2022.
The studio also recently pushed Clifford The Big Red Dog out of their fall release date but a new date hasn’t been selected quite yet.

Both movies have seen their fair share of delays over the years, especially Top Gun: Maverick, which was originally slated for release on July 12, 2019.
The studio ultimately pushed it to June 26, 2020, then to December 23, 2020, then to July 2, 2021 and most recently to November 19, 2021.
Warner Bros. King Richard, starring Will Smith, and Sony’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife are currently the only wide release movies opening on November 19.

This sequel will also be available to stream on the Paramount Plus streaming service 45 days after its theatrical debut.
