Paranoid schizophrenic in blue wig throttled female jogger who he thought was David Cameron

A paranoid schizophrenic dressed in women’s clothes throttled a jogger he believed was David Cameron, a court heard yesterday.

Callum McPhee, 29, was on a skateboard wearing a blue wig when he attacked Natalie Bennett.

Fearing she was going to be raped or killed, she ‘played dead’ and McPhee let her go. She fled and hid in bushes.

A Good Samaritan found her and called the police, who arrested McPhee near the scene of the attack, just north of Caversham, Berkshire.

He told officers he thought his victim, 29, was former Prime Minister Mr Cameron.

Alan Blake, prosecuting, told Oxford Crown Court yesterday that on July 23, 2017, the victim went for a run at about 8am when McPhee pulled her to the ground from behind and ‘choked her’.

‘She was terrified,’ he said. ‘She felt like she was going to suffocate.’ She suffered injuries to her throat.

McPhee, of Reading, admitted attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was sentenced to remain in a secure facility until judges and doctors believe he can be safely released.
