Paranoid Western Australia premier Mark McGowan has confirmed the lockdown in his state won’t be lifted until at least 6pm on Friday.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, McGowan praised residents in Western Australia for their diligence the past few days while in hard lockdown.

‘Full credit to everyone, the response has been enormous,’ he said.

‘But I need to stress – it will be a little longer before things go back to the way we’ve become used to.

‘If we manage a fifth day with no (local) cases tomorrow, we will lift restrictions and the lockout will end.

‘But until then, please continue to observe the lockdown rules. Don’t get complacent.’

On Wednesday, McGowan stated ‘based on health advice, we know this virus can linger, so we need to take every measure possible to ensure we are 100 per cent in the clear.’

The premier also encouraged West Australian residents to download the SafeWA app, which has proven to be a valuable source for contract tracing.

The lockdown was initiated on Sunday after a Perth hotel quarantine worker tested positive to the highly infectious UK strain of the virus.

The man, aged in his 20s, visited a number of locations while he was unknowingly infectious.
