Parents of cancer-stricken boy, 2, slam Israel Folau’s GoFundMe campaign

The father of a cancer-stricken boy has slammed Israel Folau’s GoFundMe campaign, saying the crowdfunding site should be used to help sick children.

Andrija Magic, from Melbourne, is fighting to save the life of his two-year-old son, Marko, after he was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma.

Neuroblastoma is the most common solid tumour of childhood arising from particular nerve cells which run in a chain-like fashion up the child’s abdomen and chest and into the skull following the line of the spinal cord.

‘This story is causing quite a bit of a stir,’ Mr Magic said on The Today Show on Saturday morning about Folau’s campaign.

He explained that GoFundMe is used for people to ‘distribute their money whatever they think it’s fair’.

‘We don’t know if Marko is going to live or die. He has a very serious rare cancer,’ he said.

‘For our family we decided to use GoFundMe to actually raise medical funds for medical treatment in the US which is currently not available in Australia.

‘All that money is directed only for Marko, nothing else.’

The Magic family is trying to raise $350,000 and vowed to donate any remaining money to charity.

They have already raised $146,254 of their goal.

Folau is asking the public to help him raise $3,000,000 for his legal costs against Rugby Australia and Rugby NSW.

The 30-year-old has already raised $504,354 in only two days.

‘Sadly, after I uploaded the messages from the Bible, my employers, Rugby Australia and Rugby NSW, tore up my employment contract,’ Folau writes on his GoFundMe page.

‘I believe the termination of my contract is unlawful, which is why I have started legal proceedings against Rugby Australia and Rugby NSW.’

Folau says he and wife Maria, an international netball player, have already spent more than $100,000 dealing with RA’s internal tribunal processes.

Folau came under fire after posting an image to Instagram saying drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists and idolaters would go to hell.

Former Wallaby Drew Mitchell also laid into Folau, saying sick children were more deserving of support.

‘YOU are in a fight that YOU chose to be in after YOU broke the terms of YOUR contract, the kids below are in a fight they NEVER wanted to be in and yet YOU think YOU deserve donations more than they do??!!,’ Mitchell posted on Twitter.

‘It’s no longer about religion, it’s about YOU and YOUR greed. @IzzyFolau.’
