Parents of ‘murdered’ woman Qi Yu tearfully appeal for help to find their daughter, hand out flyers

The parents of a young Chinese woman who was allegedly murdered by her housemate have told of how they are having trouble sleeping after 18 days of hell.

The body of Qi Yu, who went missing in Sydney more than two weeks ago, still hasn’t been found.

The 28-year-old woman’s father, Zhihe Yu, and mother, Qing He, are visiting Australia from China.

They today went to bushland near Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, in Sydney’s far north, where police are searching for her remains, before making a heartfelt plea for help.

As his wife sobbed, Mr Yu told reporters in English about the toll their daughter’s death has taken on them.

‘Both of us cannot sleep … my wife’s tears run dry,’ he said.

‘If you have any information regarding my daughter and her whereabouts please contact police.’

They then handed out missing person flyers at a media conference on Tuesday.

Detective Superintendent Kerrie-Anne Lewis said the parents were ‘obviously distraught’.

‘They still have some element of hope but they are also very aware that it’s been 18 days and the likelihood of finding their daughter alive is obviously non-existent,’ Supt Lewis told reporters.

Ms Yu was last seen by friends at a Campsie share house in the Sydney’s southwest on June 8.

Detectives believe she was taken by car to Berowra, in the city’s far north, on the night she went missing.

Her white, 2016 Toyota Corolla hatch was later found dumped on Lindsay Street at Burwood in the city’s inner-west.

A 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with her murder several days later, and has since been refused bail in Burwood Local Court.

Yu was reportedly talking to her family in China over the internet when the call suddenly ended at around 7.15pm on Friday. She has not be seen or heard from since.

Police have charged a teenager who rented a room in her shared house in Campsie, south-west Sydney with her murder.

Police will allege he killed her in an argument before using her car to dump the body, according to The Daily Telegraph.
