Parents of North Carolina woman who killed kids speak out

The parents of a North Carolina woman who killed her two children before taking her own life are asserting that she never had a mental problem.

Al and Patricia Treadway are still in disbelief that their daughter, 34-year-old Christina Treadway, is gone.

‘She was just a lovely person. She was loved by so many people,’ Patricia Treadway told WSOC-TV.

‘She’s never had a mental problem. We never had a problem with Christina in any shape or form with mental or depression or anything to do with depression at all.’

Christina Treadway, 34, killed her young children before jumping off a bridge on Interstate 485 near Charlotte, North Carolina.

Her parents shared that their daughter left them a suicide note on Facebook but instructed that it be deleted after they read it.

‘She said she was sorry and to pretend to just forgive her and pretend she was 3,000 miles away happy,’ Al Treadway added.

‘Part of the message that she left for us said she couldn’t leave her children without a mother and no one else would ever raise her kids. No one.’

The death of Isaiah and Iliyah Miller, seven and three, has stumped investigators as they try to figure out what led to their deaths.

Patricia added: ‘Iliyah had a lot of what Tina had. She was a primper. She wanted to wear makeup. She’d say, ‘Mommy do my makeup’ so Christina would do her makeup for her and then they’d snap pictures and things. Isaiah, he was all boy. He was a prankster.’

Christina was a singer and wanted to start her own makeup business to give women the confidence they needed for job interviews, according to her parents.

She also ran a YouTube channel showing off her work and often highlighted her kids singing.

‘When she walked into a room, she lit it up just like her children,’ her mother said. ‘Their whole life was so much ahead of them, much like Christina.’

‘We are devastated. My whole family is devastated and the question right now in everybody’s mind is, ‘Why?’ her father added.

Christina had made plans, with her parents, to move back to California right before her death.

‘The plans were already made. We didn’t buy the tickets because we hadn’t heard from her,’ claimed Patricia.

‘If she was hurting that bad, I wish she would have called me that day to let me know.’

The Treadways plan to wait as long as they need to to get answers on their daughter’s death.

Patricia added: ‘I would rather them investigate, and investigate, and investigate and find out exactly what happened, no matter what the result. Rather than just say, ‘Oh, she just snapped and jumped off a bridge.”

The family is planning a service for the three in California soon and neighbors have set up a memorial in front of Christina’s home.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says they were called at around 5.40pm on Saturday after the woman landed onto Interstate 485.

Christina Elizabeth Treadway, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene after jumping from the Old Gun Branch Road bridge.

When police went to the woman’s home in the 2100 block of Sebastani Drive, they  discovered Treadway’s two children suffering from fatal wounds.

Treadway’s three-year-old-daughter Iliyah Miller and seven-year-old son Isaiah Miller were rushed to Carolinas Medical Center, where they succumbed to their injuries, the exact nature of which has not been disclosed as of Monday morning, reported WBTV

Police have classified the incident as a double homicide-suicide. The father of the slain siblings has been notified and he is not considered a person of interest.

Treadway worked as a game-day employee for the NFL football team the Carolina Panthers.

Her grief-stricken mother, Patricia Treadway, told WSOC Christina was everything a daughter should be and that her own two children were her world.

Iliyah and Isiah’s paternal grandfather, Gregory Moore, told WNCN he is struggling to come to terms with the unbearable loss of his beloved grandkids and is having trouble suppressing his anger towards Treadway.

The grief-stricken grandfather descried little Iliyah as the family’s entertainer who at age three could sing ‘like a 20-year-old’.

Her older brother, Isiah, was at the top of his class at school and wise beyond his years, Moore said.

Police do not know at this time what led the mother to kill her children and commit suicide.

Based on social media posts, Ms Treadway was an attentive and doting mother who was proud of her children and their achievements, and often posted videos showcasing her daughter’s singing talent.

‘Iliyah and I have an incredible bond,’ Treadway posted on Instagram around the time of her daughter’s birthday, as Charlotte Observer first reported. ‘I’m so sad she is not a baby anymore. I’m looking forward to all her achievements and adventures.’

Treadway shared photos online showing her beaming kids trick-or-treating on Halloween, or enjoying an outing to a pumpkin patch.

About a year ago, she made a touching video in which she performs a rendition of I Will Always Love You while holding Iliyah, then aged two, in her arms, with mother and daughter dressed in matching red frocks, black chokers and red flowers in their hair.

The slain children’s biological father has launched a GoFundMe page to help pay for their funerals. As of Monday morning, more than $4,270 has been raised.
