Parramatta Eels star Peni Terepo stood down after another ‘alcohol related incident’ to rock the NRL

‘Drunk’ 108kg NRL star ‘propositioned a female flight attendant on the way back from Tonga while drinking his own alcohol in a paper cup’

  • Another ‘alcohol related’ scandal has rocked the NRL in a nightmare offseason
  • Parramatta Eels forward Peni Terepo was stood down indefinitely on Monday
  • He was reportedly involved in a drunken argument with a flight attendant
  • Passengers aboard an Air New Zealand flight said he was drunk and aggressive

The NRL career of Parramatta forward Peni Terepo is on the line after he was escorted off a flight for being drunk and abusive and stood down by the club.

The 27-year-old was stood down from the club indefinitely on Monday after reports he drunkenly argued with an Air New Zealand flight attendant.

Eyewitnesses say the 108kg prop was drinking heavily in the lounge before his flight bound for Auckland over the weekend.

He reportedly tried to bring alcohol on board the flight in a paper coffee cup, witnesses told Stuff New Zealand.

When a stewardess told him it was not allowed, he began yelling at her, according to other passengers.

‘He threatened the air hostesses that his lawyer would be contacting them because they were wrong.

‘He continued to drink his alcohol in his coffee cup and the manager had to snatch a larger spirit bottle from him.’

The manager of the flight read Terepo the rules of the airline, which prohibits bringing alcohol aboard, and told him police would be meeting them at the tarmac.

Passengers say he was restless throughout the flight, flirting with a ‘visibly uncomfortable’ air hostess.

‘From her body language I could tell she felt uncomfortable as he prompted her with questions like “what are you doing after or tonight?” and “Do you come to Parramatta?” in his drunken state.’

He fell asleep and was escorted off the flight by a pair of police officers when it landed in Auckland, though charges were not laid.

An investigation by the NRL Integrity Unit and the league’s Player’s Association is now underway.

The Eels confirmed he will not feature in the side’s round one clash against Penrith this Sunday as the investigation is underway.

The findings could result in further punishment for the 27-year-old.

The scandal is the latest in a series that has rocked the NRL’s offseason, headlined by sexual assault allegations made against a pair of players and a spate of leaked sex tapes.
