Pasquale Barbaro: Text messages sent between killers Abuzar Sultani and Joshua Baines

Murderous gang ‘Sultani’s Crew’ were covertly filmed in their Sydney apartments watching a cooking show on TV before going out to kill their victims and then joking and laughing on their return.

Extraordinary messages and emails also show how the gangland killers bragged that they would never get caught for the brazen assassination of gangland mafioso Pasquale Barbaro on a suburban Sydney street.

Movie-style footage which includes actual CCTV of the shootings of both Barbaro and Mehmet Yilmaz show gang members nicknamed ‘Outta Control’, ‘Bullet Proof’ and ‘Fame’ under secret surveillance in homes near Sydney Olympic Park and Wentworth Point in 2016.

Over seven months in 2016, the gang slaughtered Yilmaz and Rebels gang enforcer Michael Davey before brazenly killing the flashy, Instagram-obsessed Barbaro.

Pasquale Barbaro was gunned down in an Earlwood street in November 2016, the third to be shot dead in an assassination spree by Abuzar Sultani and his cohorts

On Friday, Siar Munshizada, 33, and Abuzar Sultani, 32, were sentenced to life behind bars for Barbaro’s killing and their roles in the underworld hits on Davey and Yilmaz.

Two other men involved in the killing of Barbaro, Joshua Baines and Mirwais Danishyar, were separately sentenced.

Known for his Lamborghini, designer clothing and bling jewellery, Barbaro was brazenly gunned down on the night of November 14, 2016.

In covert surveillance, the gang members can be seen preparing for the killing.

Munshizada, whose gang nickname and Blackberry message handle was ‘Bullet.proof’, is shown checking out his hair and hanging out in the dining room of Apartment 2801 at 1 Australia Avenue, Sydney Olympic Park he shared with Sultani.

The men and Abdaly Sayed, aka ‘Fame’, can be seen with a portly Danishyar, known as ‘Outta Control’ eating and watching a TV cooking show.

The TV show has commercials for an ‘extreme roaster’ which promises to convert the purchaser into a ‘Master Chef’ who can roast chicken so that its is ‘crispy on the outside, moist on the inside’.

Following Barbaro’s murder, Munshizada texted a gang member, saying ‘the dog is dead lol sent back to our creator’.

Munshizada then texted another gang member his dinner order, writing ‘ok sweet brother. 1 chicken shish plate, 2 adana rolls, bbq sauce please chips and chicken pide, thank u brother’.

The gang were then seen looking relaxed as they enter a lift at their apartment complex.

Graphic CCTV footage also shows the gang shooting Yilmaz multiple times as he returned to his car after visiting the home of a Comanchero bikie.

Yilmaz is seen walking to his car at 6.57pm on September 9, 2016 when a car draws up alongside him.

Someone in the car shoots Yilmaz, who falls to the ground where he is shot again. A man then gets out of the car and walks over to Yilmaz in the gutter and fires another bullet into his body.

Footage from inside the apartment complex shows the men getting into a lift on their return and laughing before carrying boxes of takeaway inside.

Justice Des Fagan branded Munshizada and Sultani ‘serial killers’ and condemned them for their ‘largely mindless killing spree’, which was driven by money and a ‘depraved gratification’ for murder.

The depravity Justice Fagan was referring to was made clear in a series of messages the gang exchanged after Barbaro’s murder which were read out loud during the sentencing.

Justice Fagan detailed an email exchange in November 2016 between Sultani and Baines after they watched A Current Affair report about the murder of Barbaro and others between July 2015 and November 2016.

Sultani emailed Baines: ‘Just seen current affair lol – I don’t care.

‘Just been thinking about hoodie lol – Just curious if they got me or not – If not then I’m sweet – Other than it was done clean – Even with (Subaru) WRX…

‘The Rebels was clean – the last one mak daddy would have been questioned by now.

‘So leaves us with this dog – If we pull this off bro no one has done it like us – And still walking.’

The reference to ‘the rebels was clean’ was a reference to the murder of Davey.

Davey had been a member of the Penrith Chapter of the Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang.

‘Mak daddy would have been questioned by now’ was likely a reference to the murder of Yilmaz, while the words, ‘So leaves us with this dog’ was a reference to Barbaro.

‘You be sweet my brother cause you kept putting your head down they wouldn’t of got a clean shot of you brother.’

Sultani wrote back to Baines: ‘Yeah thats [sic] what I’m hoping cause I ran with hoodie on – Cause I had it on while I was in car – And after I ran back I knew I had my head down and hoodie covering it – And we didn’t pass the cameras on way back.’

‘Just only time is when I juimped [sic] out to pull chase hahahah.’

Baines tells Sultani the crime won’t be discovered because ‘we don’t talk out of school’, while wondering whether his residence was bugged. He then relived the shooting.

‘Bro the last one was the best I loved the feeling I didn’t hesitate just let loose on him brother.’

Sultani responds by saying, ‘It was the best my brother’ and telling Baines he loves him.

‘Lova ya to [sic] my brother,’ writes back Baines.

Encrypted emails between Sultani and Danishyar were also part of the remarks, including an exchange about a Daily Telegraph story on Barbaro’s murder on November 25, 2016.

‘Hey bro how’s ur day – U read daily telegraph – Damn we really f***ed sh** up with this pb lol,’ Sultani texted to Danishyar.

‘Yeh I red it bro it is what it is maybe now I change my mind about what I said last night getting knocked lol I reckon jail more likely,’ Danishyar responds.

‘It is what is bro we know what we were getting into before we do it whatever you want think and let me know I’m there for anything you need in any way bro.’

Sultani responds: ‘Yeah I get you bro – Just got to be careful – He be depressed knowing he mite get life for nothing – Inshallah for us we be okay and we have best lawyers worse case.’

Justice Fagan said Sultani had a ‘personal hostility’ towards Mr Barbaro (pictured) because he believed he was in some way responsible for the death of alleged standover man and gangland figure, Joe Antoun

In his remarks, Justice Fagan said Sultani had a ‘personal hostility’ towards Barbaro because he believed he was in some way responsible for the death of alleged standover man and gangland figure, Joe Antoun, who had been a mentor to Sultani.

‘I am satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that for some time before 14 November 2016, Sultani had planned to kill Mr Barbaro and that he was waiting to receive definite information of a time at which he would attend a location where he could be surprised and murdered,’ Justice Fagan said.

Sultani told a forensic psychiatrist that he had killed Barbaro because he feared being killed first.

‘I ran into him in Leichardt … there was a scuffle and we got the better of him … then he was making threats to kill me and chop my head off and drop it at my parents’ house,’ Sultani told the psychiatrist.

‘I waited for the opportunity to get him before he got me.’

Justice Fagan said he did not accept the evidence provided by Sultani.

On the night in question, Munshizada drove an Audi Q7 at speed along Larkhall Avenue and stopped next to Barbaros’ Mercedes after he had emerged from the Earlwood home of George Alex.

Baines then fired four shots from his position in the back of the Q7 through the front passenger window of Mr Barbaro’s car.

Hit four times, including in the torso, Barbaro fled the car and attempted to run.

Sultani left the front passenger seat of the Audi and fired a shot in Barbaro’s direction. After Barbaro collapsed, Sultani fired five rounds into the back of the victim’s head and neck as he lay face down on the ground.

Two of the gunshots inflicted instantly fatal wounds, Justice Fagan found.

The remarks were delivered at a sentencing where Munshizada held up a piece of paper at its conclusion which read ‘bias dog’.

He had reacted to Justice Fagan’s remarks by saying, ‘Triple life. Are you serious?’

It comes after the identities of the men – and two others – involved in Barbaro’s death  were revealed on Thursday after their lawyers lost a last ditch appeal in a so-called ‘bikie super trial.’

Lawyers for Munshizada and Sultani had made a last ditch bid to the Court of Criminal Appeal to stop their identities being shared – which was ultimately unsuccessful.

The court heard that Sultani avoided police surveillance between 2014-2016 through the use of Phantom Secure BlackBerry handsets used by active members of his group.

The handsets were modified to eliminate all electronic functionality except the ability to send and receive encrypted emails.

Justice Fagan said encrypted emails were transmitted between group members in connection with each murder and that the offenders were ’emboldened’ to commit the murders aided by the clandestine communications system.

In a statement of agreed facts submitted to the court, encrypted text messages between Munshizada and Danishyar on the night of Barbaro’s murder discuss burning the Audi Q7 used in the attack.

Danishyar texts Munshizada about where he should go after picking up Sultani, Munshizada and Baines once Barbaro had been killed.

Munshizada replied they would take the Audi to Strathfield to burn it before swapping cars again.

‘Where use (sic) gonna burn it exactly and where should I not be around so I don’t go near any cams in the car,’ asks Danishyar in response.

‘No I’ll msg u soon just be near by that area,’ replies Munshizada.

The Audi was eventually driven to Park Avenue, Concord, where Munshizada and Sultani set it alight.

One the way, Sultani texted another associate: ‘Its done we driving. Pray we arrive safe.’
