A teenager has died and two others are in critical condition after the car they were in swerved and crashed into a power pole.

The driver, a 19-year-old P-plater, lost control of his Nissan 200SW before colliding with a pole on the King Georges Road, Hurstville in southern Sydney at about 2.15am on Saturday.

Neighbours attempted to revive the 19-year-old passenger but he tragically died at the scene after paramedics arrived.

The driver, a 19-year-old Plater, collided with a pole on the King Georges Road, Hurstville in southern Sydney at about 2.15am on Saturday

The driver was treated for pelvic injuries and was transported to hospital in a serious condition.

The backseat passenger, also 19, suffered knee and foot injuries but is in a stable condition in hospital.

Neighbours have described the street as a ‘hoon strip’ where drivers have complete disregard for the limit and speed down the road.

‘We’ve had a number of crashes along this road. We’ve had a few this year,’ Daniel Shaw who lives where the accident occurred, told Daily Telegraph.

He suggested a speed camera to be installed to deter hoons from risking their lives.

Vandana Bareja said it was a common occurrence seeing car accidents on that particular road.

She said the speed limit should be dropped from 60km/h to 50km/h.

‘If they get a green light on the Forest Road lights, some drivers just speed down the hill,’ she said.

Police are investigating whether the driver was speeding which then led to the horrific crash.
