A 52-year-old man has died after suffering a cardiac arrest on an American Airlines flight from Dallas to London. 

The passenger started feeling ill while in the air and the plane was diverted to land in the Canadian capital Ottawa.

The company, which has its headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas, said in a statement: ‘American Airlines flight 80, from Dallas Fort Worth to London Heathrow, diverted to Ottawa due to an ill passenger. 

‘The flight landed at 2.28am local time this morning, where medical personnel met the aircraft.’   

The passenger started feeling ill while in the air and the plane was diverted to land in the Canadian capital Ottawa(stock)

It added: ‘Flight 80 re-fueled, and re-departed Ottawa at 4.36am local time, and is currently en route to London.’

Emergency services were scrambled to try to save the man, but he died after the plane landed at around 2.30am local time (7.30am GMT). 

It is not clear where the man was from.
