Passengers are thrown out of windows after out-of-control coach overturns on a Chinese motorway

Three people were killed and seven injured after a coach crashed on a motorway in southern China on Saturday.

Horrific footage shows dozens of passengers being thrown out of the bus through shattered glass windows.

The fatal accident was likely to have been caused by spilt oil on the motorway in Guangdong Province.

According to the police, the yellow coach was transporting 33 high school teachers when it lost control near a mountain tunnel at 9:20am, and most passengers did not wear seat belts.

The coach was about to enter a tunnel on the Lechang-Guangdong Expressway in Qingyuan.

It suddenly toppled and flipped in the air, throwing passengers out of the windows before stopping in front of the tunnel entrance.

While some passengers managed to stand up and walk away from the coach, others became trapped under the vehicle.

A red truck following the coach managed to stop before crashing into the overturned coach.

Qingyuan police, firefighters and paramedics were alerted to the scene upon receiving reports from the public.

Drivers who stopped behind the red lorry also volunteered to help the injured and sent them to nearby hospitals. 

Authority said all passengers on the coach were teachers from Shaoguan No.8 Middle School, and they were on their way to attend an academic forum in Zhuhai, a nearby city.

Three people were pronounced dead at the scene and seven others sustained injuries, stated Qingyuan Police. 

According to The Paper, Shaoguan Education Bureau has temporarily suspended all outings as a result of the accident.

Police officers found oil on the road surface and believed it to be the cause of the crash.

Police are investigating the case further.
