An Australian gym has written an infuriatingly passive-aggressive response to a neighbour’s complaint about their extremely loud parties in the residential street.

The homeowner in Stones Corner in Brisbane’s inner south said the boutique gym regularly held ‘insanely loud parties’ in the open air behind their building featuring music at ‘festival level volumes’ with their latest Christmas party on the weekend.

‘Music and yelling on top of it was fully audible streets away through closed windows… not wanting to go through this again we contacted them via both Instagram and Google Chat,’ the resident vented to social media on Monday.

‘People were yelling out pleading for them to turn it down… they were asked to think of others,’ they said, adding that they were yet to receive a response and assumed they were ignored.

But they updated the post later that day saying that the gym owner had replied with a staggeringly selfish response.

‘Hi. Yes we had a wonderful night celebrating with all out clients and their amazing achievements over the last year,’ the owner wrote in his reply.

He then went on to list some of his customers who won prizes such as ‘Wendy and Bruce’ who were group training clients of the year and and that Sarah G was inducted into the ‘hall of fame’.

‘Ken won the annual beer pong championship. Congratulations to all our winners.’

The owner explained that it was to see so many people coming back out after Covid ‘over a few drinks and some dancing music.’

‘We’ve been in Stones Corner for 19 years… we’re really excited about what our celebration will look like for 20.’

The owner then finishes up the email with out even bothering to acknowledge the concerns of the other residents of the street.

‘Once again our end of year function was a hit with all our clients… now we need to get back to our exercising and work off that festive cheer.’

‘PS – Unlimited group training with us is only $39 a week.’

Commenters on Reddit, where the neighbour shared the response, overwhelmingly agreed it was self-centred.

‘The response alone is enough to make me despise this company. Not even referencing the complaint. No-one cares who won their prizes,’ one person said.

‘Also $39 a week? The gym around the corner from me does for much less, and as a plus they don’t keep me up at night with their self involved shenanigans,’ another said.

‘It’s always loud there on a normal day on my way to Aldi. I can imagine how loud they would’ve been during a celebration. It’s the type of gym that a trainer shouts at you on top of an excruciatingly loud electronic dance music,’ added a third.

The neighbour declined to say exactly which gym was involved – there are a number of fitness studios in Stones Corner.

According to Queensland Police, neighbours can report loud parties to police who will then visit the premises.

If officers agree the noise is excessive they can enter the property without warrant and give the host a formal direction to cease the noise, which lasts for 96 hours.

If they are called out again during that window and find there is excessive noise again they can issue on-the-spot fines or a notice to appear in court.

They can also temporarily seize equipment being used to make the noise such as speakers.
