‘I nearly KILLED Gary Neville’: Patrice Evra tells all of bust-up with his former Man United team-mate which led to Sir Alex Ferguson SUSPENDING training… as Wayne Rooney told the Frenchman the right back ‘could have died’
- Patrice Evra once clashed with Gary Neville in training while at Man United
- The Frenchman was seeking revenge for a bad tackle Neville had made on him
- Evra’s reaction led to Sir Alex Ferguson having to suspend the training session
Patrice Evra has revealed he once ‘almost killed’ Gary Neville in training at Manchester United.
Former left back Evra spent eight-and-a-half years at Old Trafford between 2006 to 2014, racking up almost 400 appearances.
After a tricky start at the club, the Frenchman went on to become a United legend – winning five Premier League titles and one Champions League during eight full campaigns.
But the 41-year-old reflected on one particular bust-up in training with Neville that led to Sir Alex Ferguson suspending the session.
‘I nearly killed Gary Neville, I’ll be honest with you,’ he told his YouTube channel.

Evra sought revenge for Neville’s bad tackle which led to Sir Alex Ferguson stopping training
‘Sir Alex Ferguson stopped the training about that. So I remember, I get the ball. Then Gary Neville comes and he tackled me.
‘He got the ball but he got a little bit of me so I was on the floor. And I looked at him and he was standing there.
‘And I said “Gary, you won’t say sorry?” He looked at me and said “F*** off”.’
Evra revealed how Neville’s challenge and lack of sympathy for him made him see the red mist as he sought revenge on the right back.
He added: ‘When he said that, that’s what brought me back to the streets, the hood. I was like “ahhhh fine”. I just stood up. I cleaned my shin. I said “game on”.
‘The ball arrived to his chest. I go and run and I put my two legs into his chest. He jumped also, so I put my two legs into his chest. He did a backflip.’
Evra continued: ‘Ferguson stopped the training session. Everyone was in. Wayne Rooney said, “You’re crazy! He could have died the way he fell”.

Despite the incident, Evra insisted the pair did have a good relationship together, with Neville even helping him to find a house when he moved to England.
After leaving United in 2014, the Frenchman joined Juventus and spent three years in Italy.
He then enjoyed short stints at Marseille and West Ham before he retired in 2019.
