Paul Pogba has reignited his feud with Jose Mourinho, claiming Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would never turn on the players like his predecessor did at Old Trafford.

The pair’s relationship became toxic before the Portuguese coach was sacked in December 2018.

Mourinho stripped Pogba of the vice-captaincy, but it is a sign of the Frenchman’s renaissance under Solskjaer that he was made skipper for Thursday’s Europa League win over Granada.

‘Once I had a great relationship with Mourinho. Everybody saw that and the next day you don’t know what happened,’ said Pogba. ‘That’s the strange thing I had with Mourinho and I cannot explain to you because even I don’t know.

‘What I have with Ole is different because he wouldn’t go against the players. Maybe Ole wouldn’t pick them, but it’s not like he puts them on the side like they don’t exist. That’s the difference between Mourinho and Ole.’

Solskjaer and Mourinho clashed after United’s win at Tottenham last weekend. Pogba believes it was typical of Mourinho to try to divert attention away from his side’s 3-1 defeat.

‘I’m sure Mourinho said something that made people speak, that’s what he does,’ Pogba told Sky Sports before the game against Burnley at Old Trafford tomorrow.

‘He doesn’t want to speak about the game. It’s very Mourinho.’

Pogba, who won the League Cup and Europa League during Mourinho’s first season at United before their relationship soured, spoke about the fallout from Sunday’s win at Spurs.

Solskjaer criticised Son’s reaction, saying the referee had been ‘conned’, leading to a heated argument and a war of words with Mourinho.

The Norwegian made the remark that if his own son had gone down as easily ‘and needs 10 of his mates to help him up, he won’t get any food.’

Mourinho responded: ‘I just want to say, Sonny is very lucky that his father is a better person than Ole, because I think a father – I am a father – you have to feed your kids, it doesn’t matter what they do.’
