Peace at last: Prime Video arrives on Chromecast as YouTube app returns to Fire TV

Peace at last: Prime Video arrives on Chromecast and YouTube app returns to Fire TV as Amazon and Google FINALLY put streaming feud to rest

  • Google announced today that Amazon Prime Video is available on Chromecast
  • The company also said the YouTube app is back on a slew of Fire TV devices
  • Support for YouTube TV and YouTube Kids is planned for launch later this year

Amazon and Google are finally allowing their apps to run on each other’s streaming platforms.

An ongoing feud between the two companies in the last few years has seen each pull popular products from their rival’s devices; in 2017, YouTube was taken off Amazon’s Echo Show and Fire TV after the online retailer barred Prime Video from Chromecast.

But, it now appears the two have finally buried the hatchet.

As of today, Amazon Prime Video is available on Google’s Chromecast and Android TV devices, and the YouTube app is back on Fire TV.

Amazon and Google have spent the last few months working to patch things up and bring their services back to users on both platforms

The rollout comes months after the companies teased the move in an announcement back in April.

‘We are excited to work with Amazon to launch the official YouTube apps on Fire TV devices worldwide,’ said Heather Rivera, Global Head of Product Partnerships at YouTube in a statement this spring.

‘Bringing our flagship YouTube experience to Amazon Fire TV gives our users even more ways to watch the videos and creators they love.’

Google had pulled its video app from Fire TV in 2017 citing a ‘lack of reciprocity,’ according to a Reuters report.

Around the same time, Amazon stopped selling a slew of Google-owned Nest devices on its online store.

The two have since spent the last few months working to patch things up and bring their services back to users on both platforms.

This will bring thousands more titles to each company’s streaming devices.

‘Starting today, you can watch Amazon Prime Video on Chromecast and Android TV devices, giving Prime members unlimited access to their favorite Amazon Originals, films and more,’ Google said in a blog post on Tuesday.

‘Meanwhile, you can also now access the official YouTube app on select Amazon Fire TV devices.’

The YouTube app will be available Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick Basic Edition, and Toshiba, Insignia, Element, and Westinghouse Fire TV Edition smart TVs.

Additional support for YouTube TV and YouTube Kids is planned for launch later this year.
