Peaky Blinders season 5 episode two: Bonnie Gold killed in shocking scenes

In shocking scenes aired on Sunday night’s Peaky Blinders, Bonnie Gold was brutally killed by the Billy Boys in front of his father Aberama (Aidan Gillan).

The fifth season’s second episode saw the boxer (Jack Rowan) and hitman-for-hire get attacked by Jimmy McCavern (Brian Gleeson) and his men in their campsite.

Incapacitating Aberama by shooting him in the arm, the gang made him watch as they beat Bonnie senseless and then dragged him to a wooden cross, where they crucified and lifted him into the air before shooting him.

The Billy Boys have been out for blood after the duo and the Peaky Blinders closed the gang’s paedophile ring in the new season’s first episode.

When they arrived at their campsite they made their presence known by walking into the forest singing ‘hello, hello, we are the Billy Boys’ as the carried a cross  – and claim that Bonnie and Aberama should surrender or die.

Bonnie tried to defend him and his father, pointing a gun at the gang members, but they managed to take it off him and hit him over the head with it.

Once they tied him to the cross, Jimmy turned to Aberama before dealing the final blow and warned: ‘I need Mr Shelby to understand that this is not good enough.’

The violent act sent Aberama in a downward spiral, as he went back to Tommy’s side to explain what happened, but is convinced that someone revealed his and his son’s location to the Scottish gang.

Fans were devastated by the scene, as they took to Twitter to lament the loss of one of their favourite characters and claimed he ‘deserved better.’

Bonnie first appeared in the hit show in its fourth season, as an ambitious sportsman who wanted to enter the world of professional boxing, but could only do so with Tommy’s help.

So, when his father is hired by the gang leader to assist in the war against Italian mob boss Luca Changretta, he becomes a new son of the Peaky Blinders.

Actor Jack tried to reassure fans as he joked about the grim scene, sharing a picture of him before and after the scene as he quipped: ‘Bit harsh that weren’t it?!’

It’s not clear how Aberama will be impacted by his son’s death, or if he will remain loyal to the Peaky Blinders following the attack, but revenge is surely on his mind.

Peaky Blinders returns to BBC One on Sunday at 9pm.
