A pediatrician accused of abusing children as young as 11 throughout his 30 year career was jailed this week for one year for sexually assaulting an 18-year-old girl he had been treating since she was a baby.

Ernesto Torres, 69, was jailed this week for the assault on the girl which took place in his Maryland practice in April while he gave her a physical exam.

The girl said he unexpectedly put his hand down her pants and touched her for five minutes while she sobbed.

When she reported him, 23 more alleged victims came forward with claims of abuse, and he was jailed.

He is now charged with over 65 sexual crimes, the majority of which he has not yet been tried for.

Torres was given a one year jail sentence but was given credit for the 230 days he has already spent on house arrest since May.

It means he will likely spend another 100 days or so behind bars for that particular incident.

He will face a second trial involving alleged crimes against 11 victims next year.

The judge convicted him of sexual assault but not of second degree rape which prosecutors said was the wrong decision.

The girl testified at the trial that she had gone to him for a prescription to help treat her anxiety when it happened.

It was the first time in the 18 years that she’d known him that she did not have her mother or a chaperone with her.

There were no other staff there, she said, who could have monitored the appointment.

She claims the physical exam took her by surprise and that before she knew it, he was digitally penetrating her.

The girl said he did so for five minutes while she cried.

‘He was standing over me. I couldn’t get up.  I was very emotional and I was crying.
