Penny Lancaster gets husband Rod Stewart’s age wrong as she gets him confused with her father

Penny Lancaster had a slip-up on Monday’s episode of Loose Women when she got her husband Rod Stewart’s age wrong and admitted she confused it with her father’s after the singer walked out on stage too early for his interview.

The model, 48, found herself having to Google her husband’s age live on air during Rod’s interview on the chat show after she thought he was 75, when he is really 74.

Speaking to the ladies, Rod said: ‘You know, I’m sitting here thinking,”I’m 74, people are going mad,” ‘ when Penny interrupted and said: ‘Darling, you’re 75.’

The panellists and the audience all burst into laugher, with Rod adamant that he was right, saying: ‘I’m not, I’m 74 now.’

Penny rested her head on her hand as she thought about it and then said: ‘Oh maybe not. I’m talking about my dad because he’s one year older. Sorry, my mistake. We all make mistakes darling.

Penny then picked up her phone and typed into Google ‘How old is Rod Stewart’ as Rod said: ‘1945 I was born, when the bombs were dropping.’

Earlier in the episode, Rod suffered another blunder as he arrived on stage several minutes ahead of time.

The singer surprised his wife and her fellow panellists when he arrived early for his interview and sat down at the table after a production assistant rushed out with a spare chair.

Andrea said: ‘Rod, you’re not on yet. You’re peaking too early. Do you want to stay for this? You’re very welcome, or you can go and have a cup of tea.’

Rod replied: ‘Oh, someone gave me a shove.’

With the panel and the audience all laughing, Rod got back up and walked off stage again until they were ready for him to return.

He said: ‘We were absolutely shattered, but I had this marvellous specimen of a woman by my side and she got me through it.

‘There are no symptoms. You have to go and be examined. Don’t put it off. I know men don’t like going to the doctors. Please guys – finger up the bum no harm done.’

Asked how he got through it he said: ‘I worked for two years knowing it was there. So I think you’ve got to work, don’t dwell on it, stay confident and just let the good Lord take care of the rest.’

Rod – who also has adult children Sarah Streeter, Kimberly Stewart, Sean Stewart, Ruby Stewart, Renée Stewart and Liam Stewart from previous relationships – and Penny decided not to tell his two youngest children until after he was given the all-clear.

She added: ‘We told the older ones. Aidan was only five or six so wasn’t old enough to understand. It would be too much for them [the younger ones] to understand.

‘When daddy finally told everybody the good news, and to get the message out there for guys out there over 50 go and get the test, then we told the little ones.’
