Penrith shooter Daniel King tried to kill ex-lover because she wouldn’t abort their baby

The pregnant ex-lover of the gunman who was killed after he shot at police overnight claims he had been threatening her for months after she refused to abort their baby.

Daniel King, 32, shot at his ex-girlfriend Stacey Taylor’s home with a 12-gauge shotgun before driving away and attacking two police stations in Sydney’s west.

He opened fire on a patrol car outside Penrith police station at 9.35pm, injuring one officer before he was shot dead in a hail of gunfire.

Ms Taylor said she believed he was trying to kill her child and had been pressuring her to have an abortion.

She also claimed that King hired a hitman to ‘bash me and stab me in the stomach to make me lose my baby’.

The hired hitman is believed to have taken King’s money, but ran off with it instead of carrying out his sick demands.

The pair had known each other since they were kids and ‘went on a few dates’ seven months ago, but Ms Taylor claims the relationship turned sour after she told him she was expecting.

‘I feared for my unborn baby and my children,’ she told reporters out the front of her house on Thursday.

The woman, who is 27 weeks pregnant, said one of her children and her father were directly in King’s line of fire when he shot through the windows of her family home in Marayong overnight.

‘I was petrified,’ she said. ‘But more worried about my kids safety. One of my kids walked upstairs with my dad literally 30 seconds prior.’

‘All my kids were running around screaming and crying so I was trying to calm them down while also keeping myself calm,’ Ms Taylor said.

King had been threatening to harm both her and himself in the lead up to Wednesday night’s shooting.

‘He started sending me threats for two or three weeks after I told him I was pregnant.

‘He was accusing me of lying about it being his baby, saying he wanted DNA testing and to take me to DOCS to get me in trouble.

‘He was threatening to kill himself if I didn’t get an abortion,’ she said.

She claimed King had got his girlfriend pregnant about the same time but apparently wanted to keep the other baby.

‘He was seeing me behind her back,’ Ms Taylor said.

Ms Taylor and King were not in a relationship, but met a couple of times. They went to primary school together as children.

She claimed she had received a warning from Mr King’s current girlfriend, via messages to Mr Taylor’s mum, about a couple of months ago.

‘She kept asking where I live,’ she said. Ms Taylor said Mr King had suffered a stroke recently and had been suicidal.

As soon as she peered out of the window to see what was going on, Ms Taylor said she recognised King.

‘I couldn’t make out his face at first but I could see the body. It was a guy with a tight shirt, same build and muscles, shaven head and tanned skin.

‘I thought he was coming to kill me. I didn’t take his threats seriously and obviously I should have.’

Ms Taylor said King was eerily calm throughout the ordeal. He parked the nose of his car in a bush, presumably to hide his number plate, before ‘casually driving away’ after firing a series of shots into her home.

Police eventually called to tell her they had some ‘good and bad news’ in relation to the attack, the good being that the shooter would not come back to her home.

The bad, they said, was that King had been identified and died after shooting at police as well.

After shooting up her house, King is believed to have driven to St Mary’s Police station where he fired three shots into the front of the building at 9.15pm.

At 9.35pm he stopped outside Penrith police station.

King, dressed in black and wielding a pump-action shotgun, walked up to a police car and fired several shots at two officers inside.

Police returned fire and killed him.

Ms Taylor said it was ‘sad’ that King had died but that it was more important that her children were safe.
