People are all saying the same thing after Olympic Games star’s ‘cruel’ public swipe at his wife

Australian basketball star Jack McVeigh has copped a mixed reaction from his X followers after sharing a seemingly cruel interaction with his wife.

McVeigh and the rest of the Boomers have reached the men’s basketball quarter finals in Paris, as they aim to win a historic medal at the Games in France.

McVeigh is one of the team’s standout players and his great form has seen him earn a contract with the NBA’s Houston Rockets.

All is going swimmingly for the 28-year-old, who married his wife Bethany this year.

But he has gone viral after he shared an anecdote in the hope of motivating his followers, but his plan backfired.

‘I got mad at my wife after my first Olympic game. ‘You are so talented,’ she said,’ his tweet read.

‘Supportive and nice, right? Well, according to McVeigh, she was missing the point.

‘It’s not talent. It’s dedication.’ I replied. One day you can wear the Aussie uniform. But are you willing to dedicate your entire life to trying?’

The tweet has amassed over 250,000 views and elicited a number of negative reactions, with all fans saying the same thing.

‘I’d reword this Jack,’ one fan posted. ‘It doesn’t make you sound great.’

Another said: ‘One day if I work hard enough, I too could be cruel to those who love me.’

A third fan said: ‘Weird flex.’

‘I think it’s probably a combination of talent, dedication and you being 203m tall,’ another fan observed.

Australia will face Serbia next in what has been a rollercoaster tournament so far.

They impressed in a first-up defeat of Spain and played well in a loss to the stacked Canada, before a first half described by coach Brian Goorjian as “diabolical” in a loss to Greece almost saw them bundled out.

It’s a favourable match-up on recent form though, Tokyo bronze medallists Australia beat Serbia by 11 points in an Olympic warm-up clash in Abu Dhabi on their way to France last month.
