‘Mind blown!’ Twitter is left STUNNED after user points out that the iconic fountain from the opening credits of Friends is also featured in Halloween hit Hocus Pocus

  • A viral tweet made the connection between the two fountains
  • Social media users were shocked that the Friends fountain is not in Central Park
  • Fans of the show have been posing beside Cherry Hill fountain for decades
  • Instagram even has a popular ‘Friends Fountain @ Central Park’ geo-tag
  • The actual background to the opening scene was filmed in Burbank, California

A tweet making the connection between the fountains in TV show Friends and iconic Halloween flick Hocus Pocus has led to some major confusion among pop culture fans.

Texas-based user Isa Montserrat compared the two scenes involving a fountain and said, ‘How old were you when you found out that the iconic Friends fountain is the same fountain from Hocus Pocus?’

And judging by the reaction, most people joked that they were ‘today years old’ to find out that the Friends opening credits were not filmed in New York’s Central Park after all.

Iconic: A viral tweet explaining that the fountain from the opening credits of Friends is in Hocus Pocus too left social media users perplexed

This new piece of trivia likely comes as a shock to the thousands of Friends fans who annually pose for selfies with both the Cherry Hill and Bethesda fountains.

In fact, the Instagram geo-tag ‘The Friends fountain @ Central Park’ is probably adding to the confusion as blissfully-oblivious tourists post photos of themselves jumping in the air beside the wrong fountain every single day.

Yet the actual fountain from the memorable opening credits is actually some 2,800 miles away – in Burbank, California, in the back lot of the Warner Bros. Studio.

Not only were Twitter users shocked that the scene for the New York-based sitcom was filmed all the way in California, they weren’t aware that the same backdrop had been used for the 1993 flick Hocus Pocus.

In one scene in the quintessential Halloween movie, characters Allison and Dani twirl in front of a fountain.

Hocus Pocus is set in Salem, Massachusetts, and ironically the fountain at the Warner Bros. studio is actually supposed to evoke the building facades in Park Boulevard, Boston, Massachusetts.

After seeing Isa’s tweet, user were flabbergasted

‘Today lol. I’ve been watching it for many yrs and never noticed. I’m 54,’ said one woman.

‘I thought the Friends fountain was in Central Park and there aren’t buildings behind it. Hmmm,’ said another confused user.

‘My mind is officially blown,’ echoed a similar sentiment.

‘Proof that lighting changes everything,’ said another.

Shocked: No one on Twitter seemed to know the fountain was not in New York's Central Park
