In a Facebook thread, hundreds were asked to reveal the one budget thing someone can give them that’s guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.

The most commonly mentioned gift was a freshly brewed cup of coffee. 

‘Coffee. Simple. Easy. Thoughtful,’ one man wrote.

Dozens agreed with him, saying how it’s just the thought that counts when someone goes out of their way to bring you a ‘nice, hot cup of coffee’. 

‘Coffee all day every day,’ another said, while one woman added: ‘A cup of coffee made just the way I like it.’

Hand-picked flowers was another popular item listed among women, with many saying they adore when their kids or loved ones treat them to wild blooms.

‘Anything that makes them think of me and think I’d like whatever they’re giving me is a wonderful gift. I’ve had my kids give me a flower they picked,’ one mum said.

Many agreed, with one saying: ‘Flowers picked while walking. Cheap and sweet.’ 

‘Flowers from the ditch or a dandelion from the front yard. Our wedding flowers were plucked from the ditch the morning of the ceremony,’ another said.

And one woman added: ‘Flowers or even just coming home to a clean home after a long shift. I don’t ask for much, the smaller things mean way more to me.’

‘A home cooked meal, which is priceless to most,’ one man said, while another added: ‘Any of my favourite snacks – that would make me happy.’
