Witnesses have described the terrifying moment families were forced to hide inside a restaurant while the incident unfolded.

More than 100 revellers armed with garden stakes and sticks were involved in a massive late night brawl after a chance encounter

‘It was pretty frightening scenes, a lot of young people all intoxicated, all fighting, ripping up placards and hitting each other over the head,’ Michael Ogilvie told The West.

‘There were bottles flying around, people fighting everywhere.’

Teagan Swallow said some people used barstools during the fight.

She said they were breaking anything and everything that got in their way.

Multiple people were knocked unconscious during the brawl, which took 16 police crews to get under control.

Police Commissioner Chris Dawson told reporters during a press conference on Saturday the fight began when the two party buses had arrived at the same time near Frasers restaurant.

The groups were known to each other and had not planned the encounter, Mr Dawson said.

‘We believe up to 100 people were involved in quite a violent confrontation.

‘It took some time to bring the brawl under control.

‘The fact that it happened at Kings Park… is very disturbing.

‘We deployed as many police as we could … people were using sticks, weapons and other things that they got from the gardens.

‘The matter was brought under control but it did take some time because there was a running fight.’

Three people were arrested.

Kings Park is the major tourist and restaurant precinct in Perth. It features an avenue of red-flowering gums to honour Queen Victoria’s Jubilee in 1898 and to celebrate the State Centenary in 1929.
