First-time buyer, Mike Firth, affixed a huge sign on to his ‘dream family home’ to warn other buyers of new builds in the area
A first-time homeowner is so appalled by the condition of his new home that he has hung a giant sign from the window to warn off other buyers.
Father-of-three Mike Firth, 31, paid £220,000 for a four-bedroom home with ‘climbing wall brick work’, leaking shower cubicles and architraves which aren’t level.
The house which was supposed to be a ‘dream first home’ for his young family has still not been fixed 16 months after they moved in in April 2017.
Mr Firth hung the 5ft by 3ft sign outside of the window reads: ‘Thinking of buying a home on this development? Feel free to knock and view my house. The problems are endless and it could save you ££££. #newbuildingnightmare’.
He said: ‘I decided to hang the sign because I was getting nowhere.
‘If I’d had seen something like that before I’d bought my house I’d have asked questions. I just want Persimmon to recognise my problems and to sort out the issues I’ve got.

Mr Firth who shares the property with his young son and partner claims the builders have not recognised and fixed the problems in 16 months

The 31-year-old’s 5ft by 3ft sign reads: ‘Thinking of buying a home on this development? Feel free to knock and view my house. The problems are endless and it could save you ££££. #newbuildingnightmare’.
‘All I want is what I paid for but for them to come anywhere near that seems difficult.
‘It’s stressful and it’s frustrating. You buy new, you expect new, we’re far from it.
‘If I’d have seen the house before I bought it I don’t think I would have done so.
‘The general quality of the work is appalling.’

The father-of-three claims the shoddy brickwork is like a climbing wall on his house on Sycamore Gardens estate in Castleford, West Yorks

Mr Firth says the door frames are below standard and architraves which aren’t level (Pictured, a level on the door frame of Mr Firth’s house)
Mr Firth claims the property, which he shares with his young son and partner, on the Sycamore Gardens estate in Castleford, West Yorks is filled with ‘shoddy’ building work.
He also believes brickwork and door frames are below standard.
‘Persimmon have come to do work but then left it unfinished,’ Mr Firth added.
‘It almost feels like they expect the buyer to sort the problems out themselves.

He said the shower cubicle leaks as the showers screen has a hole drilled in the wrong place
‘I’ve lost count of how many days I’ve taken off for people to come and they’ve either not turned up or not done a very good job.
‘I don’t think it replicates value for money.
‘It feels like the customer comes second. Some of the repair work carried out has been substandard.’
