A teenager has tragically died in hospital just days after he was allegedly bashed with a metal pipe by a group of men now being hunted by police.

Cassius Turvey, 15, was walking home from school in Middle Swan, Perth on October 13 with three friends when a car allegedly pulled up next to them.

The three men inside the vehicle allegedly started racially abusing the schoolboys, accusing them of smashing car windows. They then allegedly got out of the car armed with a machete and metal pipe, before telling the children to ‘run’.

While Cassius’ friends hid in a nearby TAFE, the 15-year-old was allegedly caught by the group who proceeded to violently assault him.

He suffered serious head injuries and spent five days in hospital before being discharged. However, just hours after leaving he suffered a seizure and two strokes and was rushed back. He then died on Sunday.

Cassius’ mother is appealing for help from the public to identify the men, with only one arrested – Jack Steven James Brearley.

The 21-year-old was initially charged with unlawful wounding for his alleged role in the attack, but appeared in Midland Magistrate’s Court on Monday where the charge was upgraded to murder.

‘I’m heartbroken for my son… for no reason, I’ve lost him,’ said mother, Michelle Turvey.

‘I’m just appalled at some of the violence going on in our communities. Whether these young kids are black or white, it doesn’t make any difference.’

Ms Turvey said Cassius identified two other men to police before he died and revealed the haunting details of his final moments.

‘My son has identified two people by photos on the night he was admitted the first time and has given those photos to detectives,’ she said.

‘Only minutes after Cassius was assaulted, while he was trying to ring his family to alert us what had gone on, he could hear another child screaming and that was in the next street.’

His mother claims the men also attacked another Aboriginal schoolboy who was on crutches.

Ms Turvey’s husband tragically died just a month before her son, after a two-year battle with cancer.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with nearly $12,000 being raised so far.

Tributes have been posted on social media by friends and family for Cassius.

‘Cassius Turvey, the most loving and caring person I ever knew,’ a man wrote.

‘You have been taken from us too soon. Cassius, and my heart is so heavy now you’re gone.’

‘Rest in paradise my lil soldier sorry,’ a friend said. ‘Shattered beyond belief, this beautiful soul’s life (was) cut way too short.’
