Dramatic footage has captured the moment an unlicensed driver allegedly led police on a chase for 90 minutes through busy suburbs in a suspected stolen car.

The Albany man, 38, was allegedly behind the wheel of the white Subaru Forester SUV as it tore through Perth’s southern suburbs at 10am on Friday.

Vision from a police helicopter showed the vehicle swerving through traffic, driving on the wrong side of the road and veering onto the footpath.

The car can be seen in the footage making a U-turn into oncoming traffic forcing several drivers to slam on the brakes, 9News reported.

Police allege the car had been stolen from a home in Bentley sometime between November 23 and December 5.

It is alleged the vehicle was then used as the getaway car for two home robberies in Daglish.

Police then spotted the allegedly stolen vehicle before attempting to pursue it through several suburbs including Cannington, Thornlie and Cockburn.

The alleged driver then stopped the car on Tuckfield Street, in Fremantle, before fleeing on foot and climbing onto the roof of a Naval Store.

He allegedly yelled at officers and punched a nearby wall while jumping from one foot to the other.

Police called in a fire truck with a ladder and two police officers and a negotiator were raised in a crane basket where they spoke with the man.

He allegedly punched the air and shouted some more before he was taken down from the roof. 

The alleged driver has been charged with seven offences including reckless driving to escape pursuit by police.

Stealing a motor vehicle and driving recklessly, burglary and commit, stealing, no authority to drive (never held) are among the other charges. 

The alleged driver will front Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday.
