A pub has been forced to put up a sign warning parents not to lock their children inside hot cars while going for a drink.

‘In the interest of their safety, please do not leave children unattended in your vehicle,’ the sign read.

‘Thank you, the Civic Hotel.’

The Australian Venue Company, who owns the hotel, told Daily Mail Australia: ‘Australian Venue Co have had absolutely no incidents of this nature, this sign is precaution only.’

Leaving a child unattended in a car for a lengthy period of time is a crime across Australia.

In Western Australia, a person in charge of caring for a child who leaves them in a car without proper supervision can face harsh penalties.

If the child becomes distressed or their health becomes temporarily or permanently impaired the person could face a $36,000 fine or imprisonment for three years.

The warning comes after a 32-year-old woman was charged when a child was allegedly found distressed after being left alone in a car in Bankstown, Sydney on Saturday.

The woman was charged with leaving a child in a motor vehicle causing emotional distress.
