Pete Doherty takes to the stage to perform with the Libertines in Manchester

Pete Doherty took to the stage at Castlefield Bowl in Manchester to perform a special open-air show with the Libertines on Friday. 

The co-frontman, 43, clutched his black electric guitar and shared a mic with Carl Barât for the show which was part of the Sounds of the City concert series. 

Once renowned for his drug-fuelled youth and rocker antics, Pete has now embraced clean and is enjoying life in France with his wife Katia de Vidas. 

The rocker who is rarely seen without his iconic trilby hat, made no exception as he sported the headwear with a smart blazer. 

He added a stylish pair of baggy trousers and completed his look by tucking a navy and grey striped T-shirt into his bottoms. 

Joined by bandmates John Hassall and Gary Powell, the concert came one week after the Libertines stormed the Other Stage at Glastonbury festival.

Despite disbanding in 2004, the band reunited in 2020 for a series of shows, and are currently touring the UK in a series of special shows as they celebrate 20 years of their debut album, Up the Bracket. 

Their fourth studio album is currently in the works, although it is unknown when fans can expect to hear the new music. 

It comes as Pete recently revealed that BBC bosses once offered him a ‘starring’ role in EastEnders.

The Libertines star said that the offer came after late actress June Brown – who ran a detox charity – attempted to help him kick his ‘£200 a day’ heroin addiction. 

Speaking to The Mirror he said: ‘There are a few things that have fallen through over the years that I was a bit disappointed about – opportunities that came up that I didn’t take.’

He added: ‘I was going to get a part in EastEnders at one point. It was around this time that the Libertines re-formed too.’ 

While it is unknown when the alleged offer was made, Pete’s chart-topping band reunited in both 2010 and 2014.

The frontman went on to tell the publication that he would much have ‘loved’ to have been an actor instead of a singer.

MailOnline have contacted representatives for the BBC for comment.

The late June Brown, who played Dot Cotton in the soap, ran a charity that helped pay for addicts to get treatment at a Thai monastery called Thamkrabok.

At the time she said: ‘I’m a huge Libertines fan. It’d be a marvellous place for Pete to kick his addiction.’

Pete jetted off to the facility, however only lasted a few days and instead ventured into the party capitol of Bangkok. 

After a second stint in Thailand back in 2014 the rock declared he had beaten his addiction ‘once and for fall’ only to relapse upon his return to Margate, Kent.

Admitting life in France makes it ‘easier to be clean’, Pete previously told The Guardian: ‘It’s not a big drugs area here. Then, of course, everything stopped. So all the circumstances combined to make it easier to be clean, even for a conniving scoundrel like myself. It just wasn’t worth the aggravation.’
