Former Conservative Party treasurer Peter Cruddas has angered neighbours with plans for a roof terrace on top a £42million mansion in Mayfair.

The multi-millionaire and his wife Fiona purchased the seven-storey property, near The Dorchester, and have since submitted plans to create a roof terrace with railings and a screen.

But some neighbours have complained saying it could create noise disturbance and ‘light pollution’.

They have written to Westminster council calling for the plans for the 280 sq ft roof terrace to be rejected.

One said: ‘We sleep with the window open at night and are concerned about potential noise from a roof terrace.

‘One of the things we love about the area is that it is so quiet despite being in central London.’

Another wrote: ‘We strongly object to the proposed roof terrace on the grounds of noise and light disturbance. This will particularly affect those flats on higher floors including the penthouse.’

But in the plans, put forward by Mr Cruddas’s planning consultant Alistair Grills Associates, it claims any noise will be drowned out by ‘ambient, vehicular and aircraft traffic and general street noise.’

The plans were recommended for approval on July 19 and will now go before councillors on Tuesday.

The self-made multimillionaire, who grew up on a rough East London council estate and left school at 15, is estimated to be wroth £780million.

He was one of the key financial backers of Brexit and donor to the official Vote Leave campaign.

Mr Cruddas resigned from Conservative party in 2012, after a newspaper sting purported to expose him offering access to the Prime Minister in exchange for six-figure donations.
