Peter Dutton has taken a swipe at former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull, claiming the coalition has done ‘very well’ under Scott Morrison.

In an interview with the Home Affairs Minister alongside Labor MP, Anthony Albanese, Mr Dutton said he was confident in ScoMo’s ability as Australia’s leader.

‘People can relate to him, he’s down to earth,’ Mr Dutton told Today on Friday.

‘I think he has a very good story to tell. I think people can relate to him,’ the Home Affairs Minister added.

Only five weeks after the leadership spill, Dutton admits he has ‘a black eye and bruised ribs’ after his surprise defeat to Mr Morrison for the leadership role.

‘I think it is obvious the government has done very well under Scott Morrison,’ he said.  

The Home Affairs Minister reiterated the Coalition will be able to secure a win at the next election.

However, Mr Dutton took a swipe the former prime minister inferring the party were on a ‘significant defeat at the election’ is Turnbull continued to lead the party

‘I think the government is doing well. I think we are back in the race. We are back in the game.’
