Peter FitzSimons shares his VERY real weightloss secrets

He’s the veteran journalist with a penchant for red bandanas.

But in between supporting his wife Lisa Wilkinson through her network change earlier this year, Peter FitzSimons decided to overhaul his diet and lifestyle – managing to lose a staggering 40 kilos in the process.

So in the spirit of making a change in time for the New Year, the 56-year-old has spelt out some of his top tips for shifting unwanted weight for good.

‘Get off the bloody sugar, d***head’: Peter FitzSimons shares his VERY real weight loss secrets for the New Year after shedding 40 kilos

And he does it very… honestly.

‘Get off the bloody sugar, d***head, because it’s killing you. It’s in every damn bit of processed food you eat, makes you hungry all the time, and – to use the medical term – completely roots your system,’ he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

According to David Gillespie’s book Sweet Poison our great-grandparents were consuming two kilos of the white stuff a year – which is in stark contrast to the 50-60 kilos the average individual has today.

Peter explains that once you rid packaged foods from your diet the weight ‘falls’ off you.

But it’s not only sugar we should be worried about – he’s keenly aware that the calories in one bottle of wine are the same as in a Big Mac.

Once that little known fact became apparent, Peter swore off the grog for good. And hasn’t regretted it since.

It’s not enough just to cut back on treats and start introducing salads back into your day though, Peter is adamant physical activity should also be a top priority.

‘Get your arse moving, every day. We are not meant to be sedentary slobs. We are meant to move. So you have a very simple choice: move it, or lose it,’ he said.

He reminds readers they don’t see many obese 75-year-old’s because most of them have ‘carked’ out before they reach that milestone.

In an effort to be a relatable voice in the dieting sphere, Peter even released a book on the subject, The Great Aussie Bloke Slim-Down, to encourage the average joe to take heed.
