Furious Peter Schmeichel says Man United stars should be EMBARRASSED by their second-half collapse against Sevilla… with only David de Gea, Casemiro and Marcel Sabitzer excused by goalkeeping legend
Peter Schmeichel has ripped into Manchester United’s players and said many of them should be ’embarrassed’ for their displays against Sevilla.
United raced into a lead after 21 minutes with two goals in seven minutes from Marcel Sabitzer.
But the game unravelled in the second half of this Europa League quarter-final first leg with two own goals leaving this tie deadlocked at 2-2 at the end of the night, much to the chagrin of former United No 1 Schmeichel.
‘A few players today need to have a look at themselves and think about whether they are contributing to the team enough,’ he told BBC Radio 5 Live after the match.
‘There are a few players who should be embarrassed with their performances.’

It was United’s own lapses in concentration and their own carelessness which shot them in the foot and they now head to Spain for the return leg without any safety net.
But while Schmeichel was irked by the displays of many in Erik ten Hag’s side, he did pick out three players who rose above his criticism.
‘De Gea played well, he made two fantastic saves, couldn’t do anything about the goals,’ Schmeichel added.
‘He kept Man United in the lead to no avail. Casemiro came back and played really well as well.
‘The best player is the guy who scored two goals, Marcel Sabitzer was really good. His team-mates have let him down. he showed the way and they didn’t catch on to it.’
It was a damaging evening for United, not just the collapse but also injuries to Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
Martinez left on a stretcher, while central defensive partner Varane was earlier forced off.

It leaves Ten Hag with significant problems before Sunday’s trip to Nottingham Forest – another key test in their fierce battle to secure top four.
‘There was no opponent involved with Martinez, so it doesn’t look great,’ Ten Hag said of the defender, who was seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches.
‘But we still have to wait and see, the same with Varane. It was not the Achilles. I don’t know what area. I can’t give the diagnosis.
‘We’re competing in three competitions and you need the squad. If he’s not available then others have to do it. On Saturday Maguire came in and played a good game; the same tonight. We have very good replacements with Maguire, [Victor] Lindelof and [Luke] Shaw.’
