Peter Stefanovic defends his brother Karl over Ubergate

Peter Stefanovic has finally spoken out about his relationship with his brother Karl following that infamous ‘b***y’ Uber phone-call.

In an interview with TV Week, Peter had nothing but praise for his brother and saying ‘he’s got my back and I’ve got his’.

The siblings were thrust into the midst of controversy earlier this month after a ‘b****y’ exchange in which they discussed their Nine Network colleagues was made public.

An Uber driver supposedly overheard the brothers’ 45-minute conversation after Peter took a late-night ride in his car and spoke to Karl on speakerphone. (It was previously speculated he had recorded the conversation, but the driver denies this.)

Peter was apparently ‘intoxicated’ during the conversation and was joined by his wife Sylvia Jeffreys, however she did not take part in the boys’ discussion. 

Although he didn’t directly address the scandal, Peter told TV Week that he and Karl will always support each other no matter what happens.

‘I’m his brother. At the end of the day, family is the most important thing,’ he said.

Peter went on to praise Karl as a ‘great father’ adding that ‘he’s been through a lot, but he’s tough’.

Karl recently went through a high-profile divorce from his wife of 21 years, Cassandra Thorburn, with whom he shares three children.

 The 36-year-old also revealed that he regularly takes career advice from his brother.

‘If he thinks there’s something I can do better, he lets me know. I’d like to think I do the same for him,’ he said. 

The couple soon became engaged and held a non-legally binding commitment ceremony in Palm Beach earlier this month.

 Peter said that due to their age gap (Karl is six years older than his brother) his relationship with Karl only really developed once he began studying at university.

Evidently inspired by his older brother, Peter says he chose to follow Karl’s career path and become a journalist.

But Peter was quick to quash any suggestions of sibling rivalry, saying their competitive side only emerges when they’re ‘playing backyard cricket’.
