Pets eat the strangest things!

A greedy English bulldog was the winner of an unusual contest after an X-ray discovered it had swallowed two bone whole.

Six-month-old pooch Leia from Massachusetts – who was taken to the vets by her owner with severe vomiting – was crowned the winner of an annual X-ray competition published in Veterinary Practice News which awards pets who have eaten the strangest things.

The startling X-ray images of both the toy and rib bone are part of a whole series of pictures showing the weird things swallowed by pets from across the US. 

The runner up was Lola, a seven kilogram tortoise – who had eaten a 1.5cm turtle pendant.

She swallowed her owner’s watch which kept beeping inside her stomach, alerting the diabetic owner to take their insulin.

And it was down the drain for Gert the American alligator who swallowed a plug whole. 

For one Labrador retriever it was revealed she had been eating her owner’s spoons.

And Ben, a nine-year-old Labrador mix, was found to have swallowed a whole bag of tea light candles, with 38 of the candles removed from his stomach during surgery.

Otis, an eight-year-old English bulldog, had been losing weight for the previous six months, and the owner thought he was finally having success with his diet.

However an X-ray revealed Otis had a number of little metal dinosaurs in his stomach. Otis recovered well and gained back some of his lost weight over the following months.

One dog was even found with 58 foam bullets, two screws, a metal spring, a mini screwdriver, and numerous pieces of plastic that might have once been a clothes hanger. 

Cavalier King Charles spaniel Toby was always hungry but would eat only very small amounts of food at a time, according to his owner.

And Reno, a five-year-old springer, spaniel ate approximately 130-plus hair bands while Tank, an English bulldog ate a rubber duck.

One pup even ate 176 pennies, 65 dimes, and 41 nickels.

The owner of six-month-old pilgrim goose named Plymouth said she always wore a cross-shaped necklace.

She was outside with the goose when Plymouth quickly snapped at it, breaking the necklace and swallowing the cross.

An endoscope was used to retrieve the cross, which was returned to the grateful owner.
