‘No wonder you write fantasy!’ Twitter reacts after author Philip Pullman says Britain is ‘foul’ and accuses press of attacking Meghan Markle ‘because she’s black’

British author Philip Pullman has been slammed by social media users after he branded the UK ‘foul’ and accused the press of attacking Meghan Markle ‘because she is black’.
The 73-year-old author took to Twitter today to give his 149,900 followers his opinion on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ‘stepping back’ from Royal duties.
Originally from Norwich, the author of several best-selling books, including ‘His Dark Materials’, which has recently been made into a TV show, said: ‘Of course Meghan Markle is attacked by the British press because she’s black, and of course Prince Harry is right to defend her. What a foul country this is.’
He then added, ‘while I’m on the subject of how disgusting this nation is, let me mention bookies and football’.

He took to Twitter this morning where he ranted that the UK was a ‘foul country’
‘The vampiric gambling industry has no place in a decent society. Away with it’, he added.
His followers were outraged at his suggestion that Meghan Markle had received negative comments because of the colour of her skin, and many blasted him for bringing her race into the argument.
One user tweeted: ‘No wonder you write fantasy books. She is a disaster but not because she is mixed race. Stop being so woke. Sick of this virtue signalling rubbish. Only her mother attended the wedding which speaks volumes. Interview amid starving Africans and boohooing her own lot. FGS get real’.
Others added that the Royals had been delighted to welcome Meghan, but that it was her and Harry’s behaviour which had caused problems.
The couple announced they would be stepping back from Royal duties and Pullman took to Twitter to discuss their treatment
Twitter users reacted to his comments and said that he was ‘an idiot’ to think the reaction aimed at the couple was because of Meghan’s race
Editor Richard Eden said: ‘I think this is the precise opposite of the truth. The #Royal Family were delighted to welcome someone of mixed race into ‘The Firm’ and the Press would have been more critical had Meghan been a white American actress.’
One said that his comments were ‘rubbish’ and that they had never seen Harry so unhappy.
‘Rubbish. Everyone loved her 2 years ago. Her true nature has become evident as a total narcissist who will destroy Harry. Never seen such a miserable husband – except, and this is important, when he is away from her. It appears her family were right about her all along’.
Another added: ‘…Because she’s black’ You really are an idiot.’
