Prison officers have seized drugs, phones, tobacco and condoms from a pair of shoes being delivered to one of the state’s highest security jails.
The haul was delivered to the Metropolitan Special Programs Centre at Long Bay under the guise of being shoes for a 31-year-old inmate to wear to court’, but officers grew suspicious and decided to search them.
Under the sole, a cavity had been dug out and inside were two mobile phones, two tubes of superglue, USB chargers, two condoms and tobacco.
Officers also found 35 Bupe strips. Bupe, or buprenorphine, is a prescription heroin-replacement and can be worth about $200 a strip in a maximum-security centre like the MSPC.

A 21-year-old woman delivered the shoes to the prison along with a shirt and pants on Monday.
Officers searched the clothing, which involves taking off the sole of the shoe, and found the small haul.
The tobacco was found inside tiny water balloons, the bupe strips were wrapped in glad wrap, and the condoms are thought to have been intended to help the inmate hide the phone inside him.
The inmate has been in custody since April 2018 on charges on two counts of using a carriage service to threaten to kill.
He faces outstanding charges of stalking and intimidation, possessing an unauthorised firearm and driving a motor vehicle while disqualified.
The 31-year-old is likely to face internal charges over the contraband, which could include losing access to visits or television privileges.
Daily Mail Australia have contacted NSW Police for comment.
