Photographer who captured strangers wedding proposal uses Facebook to track down the pair

Hill you marry me! Amateur photographer who captured a stranger’s proposal at the highest point in Gloucestershire tracks down the happy couple via Facebook

Am amateur photographer who perfectly captured a couple’s engagement while out on a family walk has managed to track down the couple via Facebook. 

Charlene-Louise Johnstone from Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, who was enjoying a weekend walk with her family, when she spotted a man proposing at the top of Cleeve Hill, the highest point in Gloucestershire.

The mother-of-three quickly grabbed her mobile phone to capture the heartwarming snap of the unnamed man down on one knee.

Deciding not to go over after taking the photograph out of fear of ruining the moment, Charlene-Louise posted an appeal on Facebook in the hopes of finding the couple and giving them a copy of the picture. 

She has now tracked down the happy couple, who were delighted with the photo, but asked to remain unnamed.

Charlene’s post on Saturday 18th January has been shared more than 16,000 times since it was written.

She wrote: ‘A few people have said to whack this on Facebook to try and get the pic to the people in it. Spotted someone propose at the top of Cleeve Hill today.

‘Didn’t fancy running up to them and giving them the photo and intruding in their moment, so if anyone wants to help share to see if we can find them as I’m sure they’d like the photo.’

‘I didn’t want to go over. They were obviously having their moment. They were hugging and were emotional. She was wiping away tears and I’m pretty sure it was a “yes”,’ she added.    

With the sun shining and blue sky visible too, the photograph has been described as ‘beautiful’ by many people online. 

One wrote: ‘Absolutely gorgeous photo. I would be super grateful to receive such a precious memory, captured in all its beauty by a complete stranger.’

Another added: ‘I really hope this gets to them – it’s a beautiful, amazing photograph!

‘Wow, capturing a wonderful moment and it’s beautifully composed too… lighting is exquisite.’

Charlene-louise added that she enjoys taking photographs generally – but admitted she ‘got lucky’ with her hilltop snap.

Her Facebook post received more than 3,000 likes and nearly 500 comments.

Less than a week after the image was taken, the couple reached out to Charlene revealing that they were ‘over the moon’ by the photo she took, but wished to stay anonymous.

A close-up photograph of the couple taken on the same day has received a flood of praise by social media users offering their congratulations.

‘Awwwwww yay! So good to see their faces and amazing they reached out to you xx,’ wrote one. 

Another said: ‘Yay! that’s so lovely, I’m chuffed to bits for them lol. Congratulations to the happy couple x’
