Pictured: Ex-neighbour of Poppi Worthington arrested over missing laptop father used to watch porn

This is the former neighbour of Poppi Worthington arrested in the hunt for a laptop used by the tragic toddler’s father to watch porn on the night she died, MailOnline can reveal.

Detectives spent six years hunting for the computer belonging to Paul Worthington before it was finally discovered this week.

Mr Worthington, 50, claimed that he used the computer on the night he is believed to have sexually abused 13-month-old Poppi in the hours before she died.

Poppi’s father is said to have given his neighbour Wayne Roebuck, 39, the laptop before detectives in Cumbria began their bungled investigation into her death.

His laptop is described as the toddler’s ‘last chance’ for justice.

It is hoped the found computer will provide a huge breakthrough in the police investigation – and could hold the key to the case.

The device is now being examined by forensic and data experts outside of Cumbria in the hope of finding out what was being looked at before it was sold.

It is also being scrubbed for DNA and fingerprints to help discover who has come into contact with it. Sources told MailOnline that the computer’s database is still ‘intact’.

Mr Roebuck, who lives alone with his dog on a rundown council estate in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, was arrested by detectives on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in March.

He told reporters he was refusing to reveal its whereabouts, insisting: ‘That laptop is long gone.’ He insisted he had given it to ‘some bloke in Millom’ [a town nearby] who then moved to Birmingham.

Today he refused to comment when approached by MailOnline.

Little Poppi had just turned one when she died after being found with serious injuries at her home in 2012.

Poppi’s dad has avoided prosecution for his daughter’s death three times – despite a coroner ruling he sexually assaulted her.

Cumbria Police’s investigation was riddled with errors, including a failure to collect Poppi’s last nappy, her pyjama bottoms and Mr Worthington’s bedsheets and laptop.

Earlier this year at Kendal coroner’s court Mr Worthington refused to answer questions about Poppi’s death 252 times so as not to potentially incriminate himself.

The first inquest into Poppi’s death lasted seven minutes and her death was recorded as unexplained.

In January 2016 it was revealed that a family court judge had ruled in 2014 that Mr Worthington had probably sexually assaulted her.

A coroner ruled at her inquest in January that, on the balance of probabilities, her dad assaulted her.

The Crown Prosecution Service said that Mr Worthington would not face any legal action and there would be no fourth review of the case.

Fiona McGhie, a lawyer for Poppi’s mother, said the January inquest was ‘the third time a court had found, on the balance of probabilities, that Poppi was sexually assaulted’.

Poppi’s father, a former Asda supermarket worker, is said to have gone into hiding living at a friend’s flat and relying on handouts.

Contrary to reports, he is not living under a police protection programme and has not been given a new identity.

His sister Tracey revealed he left the county after being ‘hounded’ and he continues to deny any wrongdoing.

‘He has always been absolutely truthful to the police about what he was doing the night before Poppi died.

‘He told them he was watching adult porn, but that isn’t illegal. If he hadn’t told the police he was watching porn, they would have been none the wiser. He didn’t need to tell them that.

‘He has nothing to hide,’ she added.
