When they got there, the ute was abandoned. They opened the boot and found what is thought to be the body of a teenage girl inside a barrel.

The body has not yet been identified.

Police believe the man driving the black ute switched cars and fled in a silver Holden Commodore sedan. They fear he may be armed and dangerous.

One witness at the gated community told Nine News police arrived with dogs and helicopters when they searched the ute.

Police say if anyone sees a silver sedan bearing the registration 966WKB, they should not to approach the occupant/s and to instead immediately contact police on Triple Zero.

Detective Acting Superintendent Mark White said the matter is being considered a homicide.

‘I’m not going to speculate on any particular aspect of it because it’s at a real critical stage,’ he told reporters on Wednesday evening.

‘We have a lot of information that’s coming in, a lot of information we’re processing.’

Detectives are forensically examining the ute and have begun ‘extensive inquiries’ in relation to any person associated with it.

Det Supt White declined to go into detail about the person being sought over the matter and also wouldn’t say if the victim was male or female.

‘We don’t know the identity of this person and we may not know that until tomorrow or possibly the next day,’ he said.

‘As you can appreciate, there’s a fairly intensive forensic examination that is occurring as we speak and will continue to occur possibly for the next 24 to 48 hours.’
