Three hundred people from a nearby apartment building had to be evacuated as 75-fire-fighters fought the blaze.

CCTV footage of three women allegedly walking on Charles Street, near the school, has been released by police.  Police believe the women may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The women, dressed in black, white and grey, appeared to be in a rush as they dashed around a corner on the quiet street.

The two-storey building heritage building was ‘extensively damaged, Fire and Rescue NSW superintendent Norman Buckley said at the time.

‘It has spread to the roof and to the ceiling, we’ve had a ceiling collapse hence why we can’t put firefighters internally into that building,’ he told the ABC.

‘We will be here for some time. When it is safe we will get those firefighters back inside that building just to ensure we’ve totally extinguished that fire.’

Police appealed for anyone who recognises the women, or have information about the fire, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 300 000.
