A young woman who was filmed brazenly lifting cash out of her Uber driver’s tip jar has been identified.
The 18-year-old woman, named only as Gabita, posted several social media photographs in Brooklyn, New York, on August 12 which showed her in the same skimpy outfit she was filmed in in the Uber.
It is not clear if she took the photographs before or after the theft.
In two, she ditches the mustard-color skirt she wore in the car to pose in her lace bra and panties.
Gabita has not commented since the footage of her stealing from the driver emerged on Monday night.
She is filmed coyly glancing towards the driver’s camera before making off with the money.
By the time he realized it was gone, she and her two friends had left the car.
The woman who was filmed stealing tips from an Uber driver in a shocking viral video has been identified as a young social media user called Gabita who posted this photograph and two others on the same day as the theft
In another Instagram picture taken on the day in question, Gabita posed in the same bralet and skirt as she wore in the car
According to the driver, Uber responded with a canned response when he emailed them about the incident.
‘We understand your frustration with this experience.
‘We’ve attempted to contact the rider by phone and email, but haven’t been able to resolve this issue.
‘The rider responded to us and advised us that she didn’t steal your cash from the tip jar.
‘If you believe the rider has your cash as captured from your dash cam and is refusing to return it, you may want to initiate a formal investigation via the police.’
The driver says he was too busy working to file a police report after the video was filmed in August of this year.
However, Uber tell DailyMail.com they have been in contact with the man to offer support.
She later posed in a chair inside a house in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. It is not clear if the photographs were taken before or after her now infamous Uber ride
The brazen theft was caught on camera as the trio of riders ran out of the car
The woman looked directly at the camera as she made the brazen theft
At first the driver seemed entirely unaware as to what had just happen out of view
Meanwhile, the thief has since had her account deactivated by the ride-sharing company and is no longer allowed to used the service.
‘What’s been shown has no place on our app and the rider’s access to the app has been removed,’ as spokesman for Uber said.
Although the entire app is cashless, Uber drivers now have the freedom to solicit tips from passengers.
While the company has never strictly prohibited tipping, the company has now made it clear that tips are allowed.
The video was first published on YouTube in August but since gained attention online this weekend.
It is not clear whether or not police ever investigated the girl.
The driver looked as though he was about to chase after the group but in the end gave up. He was advised by Uber to open a ‘formal investigation’
