PIERS MORGAN: Chrissy Teigen and her hypocritical virtue-signalling celebrity mates

Chrissy Teigen, the world’s most annoying woman, has announced she is cancelling her membership of two popular gyms in protest at the owner’s decision to hold a fund-raiser for President Trump.

Billionaire U.S. tycoon Stephen Ross, whose many companies include Equinox and SoulCycle, is throwing a party today at his home in the Hamptons to raise money for Trump, a friend of more than 40 years.

That, last time I checked, is perfectly legal and something that thousands of other businessmen and women have done over the years for both Republican and Democrat politicians.

But Ms Teigen is not happy.

In a scowling Instagram video address to the nation Chrissy Teigen declared: ‘Hello. I don’t normally make posts like this, but a lot of my very cool socially aware, progressive, awesome, amazing friends are members of Equinox or SoulCycle. And I just want to let you know that their owner is hosting a giant Trump fund-raiser and so… F*CK THEM’

Boycott: Teigen joined calls for a boycott and tweeted: 'the gym is my personal hell but if you're a member of Equinox perhaps it is time to say peace(out)-inox ayyyyy I'm still sick yes but f*** equinox'

In a scowling Instagram video address to the nation, wearing a revealing negligee, she declared: ‘Hello. I don’t normally make posts like this, but a lot of my very cool socially aware, progressive, awesome, amazing friends are members of Equinox or SoulCycle. And I just want to let you know that their owner is hosting a giant Trump fund-raiser and so… F*CK THEM. Cancel your memberships today. You can come to my house to work out but yeah, just think about it. If you’re fine with that, cool. Go right ahead. But if you’re not, and I know a lot of you are not fine with that, CANCEL! Thank you.’

The video then dramatically clicked off.

It was like watching a Roman emperor making a brief appearance on the balcony at the Colosseum to give a thumbs-down to a gladiator he didn’t like – ensuring he would then die.

Only Ms Teigen’s not an emperor.

In fact, her only claim to fame is that she’s married to John Legend.

Yet this hasn’t stopped her appointing herself America’s Virtue-Signaller-In-Chief, pontificating to the masses on every issue regardless of how little she knows about it.

Teigen continued on the rant saying: 'Cancel your memberships today. You can come to my house to work out but yeah, just think about it. If you’re fine with that, cool. Go right ahead. But if you’re not, and I know a lot of you are not fine with that, CANCEL! Thank you’

Nor has it stopped her wanting to ‘cancel’ anyone and anything that disagrees with her.

Of course, not everyone does agree with her.

‘IRRITATED!’ commented one of her fans. ‘I just saw an IG video by Chrissy Teigen who I love to follow because that family is really funny. However, she just told the world to cancel all memberships with Equinox and SoulCyle because they are hosting a Trump fund-raiser. Are we seriously not using businesses now that don’t have the same political views as us?? No matter who any person or business supports, it should not affect personal relationships or ruin businesses just because they do not support who you support. It’s our right as Americans to have freedom of choice or there would be one political party. Respect their choice like I respect your choice. This is getting SOOOOO ridiculous.’

Yes it is.

Ms Teigen responded to this perfectly reasonable comment from someone who is otherwise a fan, in exactly the calm, measured and respectful way you might expect.

‘Yeah we f*cking are,’ she spat back. ‘These “different views” you speak of are fundamental differences in compassion, empathy, humanity.’

Right. So in other words, all the qualities one would automatically associate with Ms Teigen, who literally spends her entire time spewing disgusting foul-mouthed abuse at anyone who dares to question or defer from her world-view.

Fellow Trump-hating celebrities including Sophia Bush, Amber Tamblyn and George Takei swiftly joined her in her call for a boycott.

Billy Eichner spelled out exactly what his issue was: ‘Hey @Equinox,’ he tweeted, ‘what’s your policy for cancelling memberships once a member finds out your owner is enabling racism and mass murder?’

Later, after cancelling his membership, Eichner said: ‘Money talks, especially with these monsters.’

Then he added: ‘No disrespect to the many wonderful employees at my local Equinox. Bye!’

Ah yes, the wonderful employees.

It’s easy to forget about them if you’re a millionaire star living behind your gilded mansion walls.

I’m a member of SoulCycle in Beverly Hills.

Or rather, I registered with them and occasionally pay $34 for their spin-class sessions. They don’t actually have membership.

It is possibly the most woke place on God’s earth, both in terms of its hyper-liberal customers and staff.

You can almost inhale the pungent anti-Trump fumes emanating from their sweating, peddling torsos.

Frankly, it’s not a safe space for me.

I hear all these intense LA millennials jabbering animatedly away in the changing area about how much they detest my friend their President, and how much they love their kale salads and seaweed juices, and honestly, it triggers my anxiety.

But I don’t seek to argue about politics with them.

That’s not why I go to SoulCycle.

I go there to ride a bike and get fit.

And I don’t give a damn what the elderly owner of SoulCycle’s parent company thinks about anything.

For his part, Stephen Ross said he is ‘an outspoken champion of racial equality, inclusion, diversity, public education and environmental sustainability’.

He adds: ‘I have and will continue to support leaders on both sides of the aisle to address these challenges.’

There is nothing in his track record to suggest otherwise, and certainly Equinox and SoulCycle have always been very loudly proactive in promoting all things progressive.

Rallying the community: Star Trek: Discovery star Wilson Cruz, who launched a petition to demand Ross call off the fundraiser, also took to Twitter with his view and to rally other gay men, to whom the gym has been known to cater

The companies both made it clear that none of their own profits go to funding any politicians, and that this fund-raiser is a private matter for their owner and one they don’t endorse.

But none of that is enough for Ms Teigen and her celebrity army.

They want everything to do with Stephen Ross destroyed, and if that includes the livelihoods of all the staff at Equinox and SoulCycle across America then so be it – even if they are themselves black, gay or transgender and hate Trump just as much.

Last night, an MSNBC contributor named Elie Mystal even called for ‘pitchforks and torches’ to be outside Ross’s home during the fundraiser.

Seriously??

All this is part of a wider, deeply sinister theme about the hard millennial left that suggests they feel entitled to shame and abuse anyone who supports Trump.

A few days ago, Democrat congressman Rep. Joaquin Castro from Texas named and shamed 44 Trump donors in his state, accusing them of ‘fuelling a campaign of hate’.

By doing so, and including the names of all their firms, he wanted these people punished, professionally and personally.

He made them targets for abuse, and possibly violence.

When news broke that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, 77, had broken his shoulder in a fall on Sunday night, enraged liberal protestors raced to his home in Kentucky to scream ‘F*ck you, f*ck your wife, f*ck everything you stand for!’

They proudly broadcast their actions on Facebook Live.

We’ve seen female White House officials like Kellyanne Conway and Sarah Huckabee Sanders horribly abused, physically assaulted, and thrown out of restaurants.

Yet the people doing all this vile stuff are the same people who profess to hate Trump because he is so ‘intolerant’.

The truth is that there is nothing more intolerant than the modern American hard millennial left as represented by the likes of Chrissy Teigen.

They furiously preach ‘compassion, empathy and humanity’ yet have none themselves.

And their own moral self-righteousness is of coursed riddled with rank hypocrisy.

Ms Teigen and her celebrity friends all enthusiastically supported Barack Obama in fundraisers despite the fact he deported 3 million immigrants, broke all US presidential records for dropping bombs, and kept illegal torture centre Guantanamo Bay open throughout his presidency despite making its closure a key campaign pledge in 2008.

I have no problem with Chrissy Teigen cancelling her accounts with Equinox and SoulCycle.

In fact, I’m delighted that this will now reduce the chance of me finding myself accidentally stationed next to her irritating little PC-crazed face on a spinning bike.

But I do have a big problem with her and her multi-millionaire celebrity pals trying to destroy the jobs of so many hard-working young people working at these gyms just because she doesn’t agree with the political views of a man who owns the parent company.

It’s a new kind of fascism, and it’s disgusting.
