Pimlico Plumbers’ Charlie Mullins ‘barred from Tory ball’

Millionaire plumber and Tory donor Charlie Mullins claims he has been barred from the party’s exclusive black and white ball after he called for Theresa May to quit.

The founder of Pimlico Plumbers accused the Tories of acting like they are in the ‘school playground’ after he was allegedly blacklisted from the soiree.

And he has threatened to pull his cash from the party and ‘spend my money elsewhere’ after the snub.

Mr Mullins has donated tens of thousands of pounds to the Tories and was close with David Cameron and George Osborne, who he said had him in ‘every four or five months’.

But he ruffled feathers among the Tory top brass earlier this year after he urged Mrs May to ‘chuck the towel in’ at the height of a botched plot against her in October.

Mr Mullins said he had offered to buy a £15,000 table for ten at next year’s black and white ball but was told by Tory HQ this week that he could not go.

He branded the decision to ban him ‘school playground stuff – you said this about me, so you’re not allowed now. It’s stupid.’

He told The Times that in future he might decide to pull his cash and fund other political causes like a campaign for a second EU referendum.

He said: ‘She’s the Prime Minister,’ he said. ‘Maybe I’ll spend my money elsewhere if they’re going to be like that.’

The ball is usually held in a luxury London hotel and the top brass of the Conservative Party mix with wealthy donors and  supporters.

Tickets usually go for more than £1,000 while guests bid for expensive auction lots – including a weekend on a superyacht and a shoe shopping session with fashion-loving Mrs May.

Mr Mullins is a regular on the Tory party scene and has been pictured rubbing shoulders at the event with Conservative ministers.

Despite allegedly being banned from the event, Mr Mullins insists that many Tory MPs agree with him that Mrs May has to go.

He said: ‘If she went round sacking everyone who disagrees with her, she’d lose half the government.’

And he accused the Prime Minister of failing to court business properly and warned that the Tories risk losing donors unless they change tack.

He said: ‘What the Conservative Party needs to remember is that businesses like mine are the backbone of the country,’ he said.

‘She isn’t business-oriented. I haven’t been to Downing Street since she’s been in power. George and Dave had me in every four or five months.

‘I’ve heard nothing from her. And talking to other business people, she hasn’t even had them along.’

Mr Mullins is a vocal critic of the government’s approach to Brexit and helped to bankroll Gina Miller’s Article 50 High Court battle.

Asked if he would donate to the party in future, Mr Mullins said: ‘She’s not going to be around much longer so it wouldn’t really matter, would it?

‘She’s been saying that Brexit means Brexit. I’m telling you now that Brexit means exit for Theresa May.’

Mail Online has contacted the Conservative Party for comment.
