Pinterest 2017 wedding report inspiring bridal trends

Ever since the birth of Pinterest in 2010, the visual scrapbook site has provided a mecca for bridal inspiration, whether you’re looking for hairstyles, venues, details or make up.

And now, the website has revealed the most popular wedding trends this year, in their 2017 Wedding Report.

The upshot? Forget fussy up dos as natural hairstyles are back. Elsewhere, it’s all about food and drinks pairings, statement accessories and pink eyeshadow.

NATURAL HAIR

While it may feel as thought up dos and intricate braids have been de rigeur for a while now, 2017 has seen a return to natural hairstyles.

Pinterest reports that the natural style – think soft waves, loose pony tails with flowers and embracing your curls – has made a 30 per cent increase year on year.

‘Forget fussy up dos. Natural hair is a classic and timeless look,’ the report states. ‘This year is all about simple, polished glamour,’ the site adds.

OFF THE SHOULDER DRESSES 

The off the shoulder – or cold-shouldered – trend has been huge this year in fashion.

And now, it seems as though it has hit the bridal scene. 

Searches for off the shoulder wedding dresses have seen a huge upsurge, resulting in a 158 per cent increase year on year. Pair your gown with a berry lip colour (which has also seen a 71 per cent rise) to be fully on trend.

FOOD AND DRINKS PAIRINGS

Forget standard cocktails – these days brides and grooms are favouring an altogether more sophisticated set-up.

‘Couples are… giving guests a fun and tasty alternative: food and drink pairings,’ the 2017 report reads.

‘Think sliders with shots of beer, or oysters with sparkling wine tastings.’ 

Food and drinks pairings are up by 60 per cent year on year, while taco bars which let guests build their own tacos have also proven popular.

The frosted beauties are the new naked cakes, having seen a 437 per cent increase in popularity.

Over on Instagram, the dessert hashtag has nearly 300,000 posts – so there’s plenty of inspiration that way, too.

NAVY SUITS

When it comes to the groom, traditional black suits are a thing of the past.

PINK EVERYTHING

Like it or loathe it, so-called millennial pink has seeped into every aspect of our culture – and weddings are not immune to its power.

Pinterest reports an upsurge by 45 per cent in searches for pink eyeshadow, while searches for dusty rose weddings have gone up by a whopping 255 per cent. 

Consider adding pink to the details of your wedding, whether it’s in the invitations, make up or the decor.

These are just a few of the reasons why the country has seen a 125 per cent increase in searches for people looking for a honeymoon destination.

Elsewhere, New Orleans has ranked as the most popular pre-wedding party destination, and ‘minimoons’ or miniature honeymoons are on the rise. 

Meanwhile, the iconic and picturesque destination of Santorini in Greece remains an ever popular honeymoon choice.

Tattoos have been huge for a while now – but these days, some couples are taking inkings to the next level.

Finally, while traditionally brides and grooms often tie the knot in the spring, this year there is a fresh take on wedding dates.

Many are opting to get married in the autumn or Fall. Up 280 per cent year on year, autumn weddings are huge in 2017. Act accordingly.
