Pippa Middleton manages to escape morning sickness in first trimester

The Duchess of Cambridge suffered from extreme morning sickness in the early stages of each of her three pregnancies.

The debilitating illness resulted in her withdrawing from public duties for several weeks. Happily, younger sister Pippa Middleton has so far endured no such discomfort during her first trimester.

The 34-year-old, who is expecting her first child in October with multi-millionaire financier husband James Matthews, has shared intimate details of her baby bump and her pregnancy work-out experiences.

‘I was lucky to pass the 12-week scan without suffering from morning sickness,’ she says. ‘This being my first pregnancy, I had so many questions I felt were still unanswered.

‘I wanted to know things like — would I strain if I served in tennis? Are all strokes of swimming safe?

‘Can I still do a normal yoga class if I avoided certain positions? Could I still work my abs?

‘It’s particularly hard in the early months when you don’t really want to share the news with everyone, not even your class instructor.

‘I’ve noticed my body change and weight increase — but through effective exercise and sports I feel that it’s being strengthened to support a healthy pregnancy, birth and recovery.’

Keep-fit fanatic Pippa reveals in her Waitrose Weekend column she has given up jogging.

‘I stopped running — not because I read it was unsafe, just because I rather liked the idea of giving my body (and growing baby) a rest from pavement pounding.’

She says she is ‘conscious of holding my tummy in (as if giving your baby a hug) to support my back and ensure that post-baby, my old favourite jeans will still fit . . . eventually.’

Broadchurch actress Olivia Colman caught up with fellow Queen impersonator Dame Kristin Scott Thomas at the Royal Academy summer party.

Scott Thomas, 58, played Her Majesty on the West End stage while 44-year-old Colman is about to start filming season three of the Crown.

Is Lady Amelia still down in the dumps after being omitted from cousin Prince Harry’s wedding?

When Sir Salman Rushdie quit Twitter, he criticised social media for ushering in a ‘generation of rude people’.

His daughter-in-law, classical singer Natalie, is made of sterner stuff.

‘There are so many trolls on Instagram,’ she tells me.

‘They’re horrible. I try not to engage with it. People tell me I’ve put on a lot of weight. I don’t want to spend my life in the gym. I try and stay healthy but I love food. I like cake, I like burgers, I like pizza.’
