Fitness fanatic Pippa Middleton is hoping her baby son will follow in her footsteps by taking him to a baby gym.

The younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge revealed in her Waitrose Weekend fitness column that she takes her 11-month-old son Arthur to her local baby gym for regular workouts.

Pippa, 36, explained that the fitness sessions near their London home help to ‘promote movement, balance and strength’ as the tots have to navigate soft play areas, mini trampolines and other structured activities.

Pippa and husband James Matthews celebrated the arrival of their son in October last year and she is regularly spotted balancing her motherly duties with her gym routine.

In Waitrose Weekend magazine the mother-of-one wrote: ‘Now that Arthur is 11 months old and more mobile, I have been trying to come up with different activities to do with him.

‘I needed to find something more than just park walks in the pram. Our local baby gym has been a saving grace. It’s a big space full of fun, soft objects, playmats, stairs, balls, swings, mini trampolines and more to stimulate and physically engage babies and toddlers.

‘The classes have structured activities that help promote movement, balance and strength, but there’s also free play.

‘Arthur burns lots of energy in this safe environment and learns many physical skills. I have also noticed him building his confidence with each visit.’

Pippa also spoke earlier this year how she had been taking Arthur for swimming lessons.

‘Starting my son Arthur swimming at four months old has given him confidence and enjoyment in water.

‘He’s now six months old, and swimming is one of our favorite activities. The exercise helps guarantee sound daytime sleeps, and the movement has improved his digestion,’ she wrote in a column from back in April.

Back in the summer Pippa looked like a supermum as she was seen jogging along Chelsea embankment for a Thames riverside run – with a pram in one hand and leading her two dogs with the other.

The socialite was decked in gym gear, wearing a vest that showed off her well-toned arms.

Her hair blew in the wind as the dogs struggled to keep pace with her, trailing behind the baby jogger with their tongues flapping.

Running with a buggy is a good way for new mums to return to fitness, though it’s generally recommended that babies should be around six to nine months of age so that they are able to sit up and hold their head properly.
